Good Friday. In The Way of Jesus Christ, Jürgen Moltmann writes, The apocalyptic sufferings of ‘this present time’ are gathered up into ‘the suffering of Christ’ on Golgotha. Jesus suffers them in solidarity with others, and vicariously for many, and proleptically for the whole suffering creation.

Indigenous Peoples' Day is a holiday that celebrates and honors Native American peoples and commemorates their histories and cultures. It is celebrated across t...he United States on the second Monday in October, TODAY, and is an official city and state holiday in various localities. It began as a counter-celebration held on the same day as the U.S. federal holiday of Columbus Day, which honors Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. Many reject celebrating him, saying that he represents "the violent history of the colonization in the Western Hemisphere", and that Columbus Day covers-up Christopher Columbus' actions of enslaving Native Americans. It was begun in Berkeley, California, in 1992, to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas. In the 2010s, various other cities and states also began observing it. Committees of Native American Presbyterians are working to provide resources with information to help inform the denomination about Indigenous Peoples Day. See more

Last night we concluded a study with Debby Irving's book "Waking Up White". In the final chapter, she says, "Self-examination and the courage to admit to bias and unhelpful inherited behaviors may be our greatest tools for change. Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable enough to expose our ignorance and insecurities take courage. And love. I believe the most loving thing a person, or a group of people can do for another is to examine the ways in which their own insecurities and assumptions interfere with others' ability to thrive." https://www.goodreads.com/bo/show/20665987-waking-up-white
