The final heroine we’re profiling is current Fairplex Chief of Staff, and half of the executive team, Cielo V. Castro. Since the inception of the coronavirus pandemic, Cielo has facilitated Fairplex’s efforts to serve as a COVID relief center in the east San Gabriel Valley. Prior to joining Fairplex in 2017, she served as a Deputy for LA County Board of Supervisors, Hilda Solis, and served five years at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Committed to public ...service, Cielo is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles. She is a graduate of Boston University and received an MPA from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. Cielo is a native Angeleno and shares her love of the Los Angeles Dodgers with her 4 year-old twins that attend the Child Development Center at Fairplex. See more

The penultimate Fairplex Heroine we are honoring this month is current Los Angeles County Fair Association member, Rodri J. Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez founded MARIACHI USA Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in 1990 and has been producing the MARIACHI USA Fiesta during the End of Summer Concert Series since 2000. She was the first Latina named to the Los Angeles County Fair Association in 2002. Ms. Rodriguez is currently President and CEO of Rodri Entertainment, Inc, her own international production company founded in 1975 as well as Founder and Chairman of the MARIACHI USA Foundation.

Our next Fairplex Heroine is current Board Member, Heidi L. Gallegos, IOM. Ms. Gallegos was named to the Association in 2010 and joined the Board in 2020. Ms. Gallegos brings to the Fairplex Board a tremendous amount of experience in non-profit management and governance practices in both the public and private sectors. With over 25 years of volunteer work, Ms. Gallegos is no stranger to championing non-profits. Ms. Gallegos also sits on The Learning Centers at Fairplex Board. She is the current President/CEO of the Brea Chamber of Commerce.

The Fairplex Heroine we are honoring today is Charlene Leavitt. Ms. Leavitt is co-owner of Ray Cammack Shows (Rcsfun) , founded in 1961 and serving the LA County Fair since 1985. Ray Cammack Shows rides over 10 million people per year and is one of the largest traveling carnivals in North America. Ms. Leavitt has reinvigorated customer service and employee satisfaction in the carnival word as well as helped RCS become an industry leader in quality, innovation and integrity. She was inducted (along with her husband, Guy Leavitt) to the Los Angeles County Fair Association’s Hall of Fame in 2009 for setting the model for the entire amusement industry.

Our next highlight is current Los Angeles County Fair Association Secretary of the Board, Dr. Linda Bosserman, MD. After joining the Association in 2001, Dr. Bosserman was named Director in 2016. After practicing oncology in our community for 26 years her practice joined City of Hope in 2014. She has been recognized by her peers as one of the top 4%, Best Doctors in the US annually since 2005. She writes and lectures for professionals and the public on high quality cancer car...e and the latest cancer therapies. In her other role as mom to 8 adults, grandmother to 13 with 3 great grandchildren she loves to share the LA County Fair's many educational events and exhibits ‘cleverly disguised as fun’ with each one of them. Dr. Bosserman is currently a Clinical Professor working with academic and community clinicians to deliver the latest cancer care and clinical breakthroughs wherever patients live. See more
