FACLC stands with our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The recent mass murder in Georgia along with the the countless hate crimes on the AAPI community since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic has shed a light on the dark history of systematic racism and discrimination in this country. It is time to condemn these crimes and speak out against discrimination. https://www.pbs.org//what-you-can-do-to-fight-violence-and

High conflict cases, especially those involving Personality Disorders, are some of the most difficult for FACLC attorneys to resolve. "Worst of all, children become collateral damage and often wind up developing a wide range of mental-health issues." Fortunately, FACLC attorneys attended a training with High Conflict Institute yesterday to better address these issues. https://www.mercurynews.com//opinion-dealing-with-narciss/

California amended Family Code Section 6320 on September 29, 2020. Highlights include that "The COVID-19 pandemic has proven this historical trend to be the reality for survivors of domestic violence..." and coercive control is a form of domestic violence that can be restrained. This is amazing progress for survivors of domestic violence! https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov//billVersionsCompareCli

**Warning- contains graphic descriptions of violence and sexual abuse** Tuesday is #GivingTuesday. Please support the work of the Family & Children’s Law Center (FACLC)!! We are the only agency in Marin County representing domestic violence survivors in obtaining restraining orders. With the documented increase of domestic violence due to COVID-19, our workload has doubled. Last year, FACLC attorneys completed 46 hours of domestic violence services in the 2nd quarter. In 2...020, during the same time period when shelter in place orders began, we completed 90 hours. That’s TWICE the work with one less attorney. This year we’ve seen some of the worst domestic violence in recent memory. These client’s have desperately needed the restraining orders we obtain; restraining orders that help break the cycle of violence and keep families safe. Clients like: A mother who was raped repeatedly in her home until her husband passed out drunk next to her. Four months later, her daughter was raped by her stepbrother. A young girl, who at 11 years-old, called 911 after watching her father threaten her mother at knifepoint. A woman, strangled by her boyfriend while he told her he would kill her. When her boyfriend was arrested, he was immediately released due to COVID-19 leaving her unprotected. Legal support for survivors of domestic violence doesn’t end with a restraining order. Survivors also often need family law services including custody, child support, and divorce. FACLC provides ALL of this, but we need your help. We need help in order to keep up with the demands 2020 has created. Facebook is matching donations up to $7 million. Please consider donating early before the $7 million is gone!!
