There’s a silent danger with bunions that don’t look like bunions meaning you don’t have that classic big bump on the side of your foot, but rather just a little on on the top it’s called Hallux Limitus. This problem starts early in life because of the genetic inheritance of a foot structure, trauma, or years of wear and tear on a bad joint. When the joint is predisposed to this kind of bunion problem, the cartilage of the surface is slowly worn out, and this s...pells disaster. Once the cartilage is gone, we can’t bring it back. This is why we’ve dedicated the past 20 years to developing procedures that allow our doctors to intervene early and prevent the wear and tear of the first metatarsal joint, and ultimately save the cartilage and prevent a limited, painful experience. Hallux limitus correction is similar to bunion correction in that the joint is repositioned, the end result of this is better range of motion which you can imagine has HUGE implications in the ability to dance, do yoga or wear high heel shoes! As you can see in the diagrams, the jamming of the joint causes arthritis in the joint and limited range of motion. This becomes painful and debilitating. Luckily, we have a solution for this kind of problem. Here is an example of a case performed by one of our surgeons, @drjasonkhadavi This patient had a painful, limited first metatarsal. After the surgical correction you can see the increased range of motion of the great toe. The recovery for this procedure is similar to an average evo bunion correction: 2 weeks of surgical shoes followed by a 2 week transition to normal walking in athletic shoes. Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to close our practice to protect our patients, our team and our community during the initial phase of the outbreak. Following the announcement by Governor Newsom, we will be opening the practice for consultations and visits as of May 18, 2020. During these past weeks, we’ve ...been busy developing protocols to help keep our patients, and team members safe when we return to caring for your feet. We have changed our scheduling to reduce the volume of patients even further, keeping the office to the minimum number of people. Please do not bring extra people with you, as we will be unable to accommodate them at this time. Looking to the future, we have invested in advanced air cleaning technologies and implemented solutions that allows for all of our patient onboarding to be completed at home from your own smartphones, tablets or computers. This way when you come to the office, you will not have to touch anything. Our patient support team members will escort you throughout your entire visit, opening doors and assisting you so only our team will have to contact surfaces. But most importantly, we would like to thank all of our patients and their understanding.
