Black and Hispanic Americans are especially vulnerable to Alzheimer's disease. Yet they're often underrepresented in scientific studies of the disease.
"Often in medical schools, they have limited pictures of diseases in skin of people of color." That means health professionals trained with these resources aren't seeing the full picture.
African Americans are two to three times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than non-Hispanic whites, while Latinos are 1.5 times more likely, but out of 300 peer-reviewed studies of non-drug interventions for Alzheimer’s and dementia, just under 4% of them focused on communities of color.
