*** Power shutoff update *** The neighborhoods surrounding Conway Elementary School and Rincon Middle School continue to be impacted by San Diego Gas & Electric’s public safety power shutoffs. Both campuses will remain closed Friday, December 4, because of this power shutoff. Conway Elementary students will follow the virtual hybrid model schedule from home. Rincon Middle students in the A track cohort will be on the asynchronous day schedule and should sign in for attendance... using the attendance survey. Meal distribution will not take place at either school on Friday. The National Weather Service’s red flag warning for San Diego County continues to be in effect because of extreme Santa Ana wind conditions that increase the risk of wildfires. For all EUSD families, we ask for your patience and flexibility as teachers who are working from home also may be affected by power outages. The district has implemented a temporary suspension of in-person instruction as COVID-related quarantines challenge operational efficiency. Ensuring sufficient, high-quality staffing is a daily struggle in this situation. This includes teachers, substitute teachers, health technicians, custodians, aides, and other staff members, all of whom fill vital roles. That compromises safety for our children and employees. We can’t provide a quality in-person educational experience if we don’t have the staff.

EUSD is committed to helping our families in and out of the classroom! We are hosting a distribution of USDA Farmers to Families Food Boxes at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, at Farr Avenue Elementary, 933 Farr Ave. The free food boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be available while supplies last. Boxes may include fresh produce, dairy, and meat products.

Important nutrition update: The district’s weekday meal distribution will continue through Aug. 10 at five locations. The free, to-go meal distribution will continue to take place 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Included in the distribution are three meals per day as well as four additional meals on Friday to cover the weekend.
