(DM) Hello ESCA! It's #TartanTuesday! This week we are looking at a Highland Clan Clan (House): MacKenzie... Clan (House) Motto: Leceo Non Uro (I Shine, Not Burn) From the Gaelic Maccoinneach meaning fair, bright one, the MacKenzies are thought to descend from the ancient royal house of Lorn. The clan held lands in Ross-shire, stretching from the Outer Hebrides in the west, to the Black Isle in the east. The western stronghold of the clan MacKenzie was at Eilean Donan Castle at the mouth of Loch Duich. During the seventeenth century, the MacKenzies installed the clan MacRae as hereditary constables of the castle, and the MacRaes were to remain fiercely loyal to the family for many centuries. https://www.scotclans.com//clan-mackenz/mackenzie-history/ #Scotland #EscalonScottishCulturalAssociation #Scottish #ScotsOnTuesdays #Tartans #ESCA #EscalonScottishGames #ClanMacKenzie #Clans #ThatClanLife #HighlandGames #ScottishGames #Escalon #SanJoaquinCounty #Manteca #Oakdale #Stockton #Riverbank #Ripon #CentralValley #ValleyFamilies #ScottishFamily #ProudScots #Ancestry #ScottishHeritage

(DM) Hello ESCA! It's #TartanTuesday! This week we are looking at a Highland Clan Clan (House): Mackay... Clan (House) Motto: Manu Forti (With a Strong Hand) The name MacKay takes its origins from the gaelic Macaoidh or son of Hugh. The identity of this Hugh is uncertain but the name probably derives from a member of the ancient Celtic royal house, whose branches disputed the throne in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The MacKays also have strong links with the progeny of Queen Gruoch, who was married to MacBeth. By the fourteenth century, the clan Mackay was well established in the most northerly and remote area of Scotland their land extending from Cape Wrath along the north coast to Caithness. This land was known as Strathnaver. The Mackay clan were both numerous... https://www.scotclans.com/scott/clan-mackay/mackay-history/ #Scotland #EscalonScottishCulturalAssociation #Scottish #ScotsOnTuesdays #Tartans #ESCA #EscalonScottishGames #ClanMackay #Clans #ThatClanLife #HighlandGames #ScottishGames #Escalon #SanJoaquinCounty #Manteca #Oakdale #Stockton #Riverbank #Ripon #CentralValley #ValleyFamilies #ScottishFamily #ProudScots #Ancestry #ScottishHeritage

(DM) Hello ESCA! It's #TartanTuesday! This week we are looking at a Highland Clan. Clan (House): MacIntyre... Clan (House) Motto: Per Ardua (Through Difficulties) The name is derived from the Gaelic ‘Mac-an-T’saoir’ meaning ‘son of a carpenter’ which accounts for its occurrence throughout the Highlands. By the end of the 13th century the MacIntyres of Glen Noe were foresters to the Lord of Lorn. Some became bards, Duncan of Bàn, and families of MacIntyre became hereditary pipers. The first chief of record was Duncan who married a Campbell. Originally the MacIntyres... https://www.scotclans.com//clan-macinty/macintyre-history/ #Scotland #EscalonScottishCulturalAssociation #Scottish #ScotsOnTuesdays #Tartans #ESCA #EscalonScottishGames #ClanMacIntyre #Clans #ThatClanLife #HighlandGames #ScottishGames #Escalon #SanJoaquinCounty #Manteca #Oakdale #Stockton #Riverbank #Ripon #CentralValley #ValleyFamilies #ScottishFamily #ProudScots #Ancestry #ScottishHeritage
