One thing you expect people running for polical office to know is the law. Even without knowing the law, you expect them to have a pretty good sense of what is right or wrong. Some candidates on the November ballot obviously do not know the law or even have a sense of what is right or wrong. These candidates, assuming they know the law have taken advantage of the city's and the state's meagre personnel resources to put their political signs on public rights of way or public f...ences. In 2016 El Ravenswood reminded candidates, both for local, state and national offices that their signs were illegally placed on public property. Most instructed their volunteers to remove the signs. Candidates running for office need to understand the local codes and make every effort to abide by them. This do-whatever-you-please predisposition does not augur well for a community that expects to resolve a lot of its problems by abiding by existing laws and codes.
