Letter to the Class of 2020 Regarding Drive-In Graduation Celebration December 19 and 20 To the Class of 2020,... Back in May I promised that the Class of 2020 would have the opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments at Gavilan College with the crossing of the stage. For months it looked like this would not be possible. Then restrictions rolled back somewhat, and 122 of you signed up for the opportunity to participate in our Drive-through Graduation Celebration on December 19 and 20. We have been excitedly planning for this occasion. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has continued to spread and is now surging in our communities, impacting the capacity of our healthcare system. This week, the Governor presented a new Regional Stay-At-Home Order for the State of California. Restrictions started on December 6 and continue until at least January 4. These restrictions, which include a moratorium on public events outside of religious services or protests, make it impossible to continue with our plans. It saddens me more than you know to inform you that we have had to cancel our Drive-in Graduation Celebration. Please know that we explored every possible option before coming to this decision. I do promise that you are not forgotten. Before the end of 2020 watch your mail for a package from Gavilan College and the Associated Students of Gavilan College, and your email for a link to a video with some special thoughts we would like to share with you. At this point, we don’t know when we will be able to schedule a traditional graduation ceremony again, but when we do (hopefully May 2021), the Class of 2020 will be invited to participate. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Grace Cardinalli or Ryan Shook. Sincerely, Dr. Kathleen A. Rose, Superintendent / President Gavilan College
