It is important for those who have diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol to have a dilated eye exam at least once a year. This patient came in for new glasses, but during dilation we found severe retinal bleeding, dangerous new vessel growth around the optic nerve, and swelling around the area of center vision. He was diagnosed with diabetes only 6 months ago. We immediately referred him to our local Retinal Specialist for possible eye injections and laser treatment to prevent permanent vision loss. Findings: In this cohort of 276 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Suizhou, China, the proportion of daily wearers of eyeglasses was lower than that of the local population (5.8% vs 31.5%)....
