Red-y, Set, Go Red! Go Red for Women! National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 5, 2021.... Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women in the United States, according to the American Heart Association. According to the association’s newly released 2021 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics, heart disease kills one woman approximately every 80 seconds. Cardiac events are on the rise in women in their 20s. The association is calling on women to spread awareness about cardiac health on Friday, which is National Wear Red Day. Women and men are encouraged to wear red and give as part of the Go Red For Women movement.

The El Monte Women's Club is proud to feature this year's art submissions from the students in the El Monte Union High School District. Sadly these students were not able to compete at the San Gabriel Valley District level nor at the California Federation Women's Club level. We encourage all high schools in EMUHSD to participate in this annual competition. Each year our members look forward to viewing and voting on the amazing artwork from students.

Our November 2019 meeting was wonderful. We heard from the young ladies that attended Girls State, held a surprise baby shower for our member, Amber Servin and fit in a some information about Census 2020.

Fact checked and corrected; This poem was written in 2020 not 1919 This poem was not written by someone named Kathleen O’Mara in 1869 and then reprinted in 1919. (Side note: The Spanish Flu pandemic is referred to on the CDC website as the 1918 pandemic, not the 1919 pandemic.) This text is actually a modern-day poem written during the COVID-19 coronavirus disease pandemic by author Catherine M. O’Meara. ... O’Meara posted this poem to her blog The Daily Round on March 16, 2020. The poem went viral, racking up thousands of shares as it circulated on social media. On March 19, Oprah Magazine dubbed O’Meara, a former teacher in Madison, Wisconsin, the poet laureate of the pandemic, writing: And people stayed at home And read books And listened And they rested And did exercises And made art and played And learned new ways of being And stopped and listened More deeply Someone meditated, someone prayed Someone met their shadow And people began to think differently And people healed. And in the absence of people who Lived in ignorant ways Dangerous, meaningless and heartless, The earth also began to heal And when the danger ended and People found themselves They grieved for the dead And made new choices And dreamed of new visions And created new ways of living And completely healed the earth Just as they were healed. Reprinted during Spanish flu Pandemic, 1919

This is an informative post. In no way is the El Monte Women's Club expecting to be a priority in these current times. The dates to turn in our membership numbers have not changed. The number of renewals and new members determine our club size and allowed delegates for the 2020- 2021 year. If you are able to renew your membership, we ask that you please mail in a check or use link Squareup.com/store/emwc-general-fund... We look forward to meeting soon.
