Meet Empowering HeArts 2020 Honoree Tabitha Jennings: Tabitha Jennings was raised in Santa Clarita and attended Saugus High School. Growing up, Tabitha played competitive softball, and while playing softball, she created many memories and learned life-lessons which she applied to her life on and off the field. One of her most memorable coaches told Tabitha, When you find yourself falling behind, it’s not the time to give upit’s the time to dig down deep and fight harder. ...Tabitha has done just that throughout the trying times in her life. Her past challenges have given Tabitha the strength and resilience to continue on and are what shaped her to become a true trailblazer. Meet Empowering Hearts 2020 Honoree Luz Garcia. Luz faced unexpected heartbreak when her husband, who was her childhood sweetheart, passed away suddenly, leaving her alone with six children. Luz, who was accustomed to being a stay-at-home-mother, had to learn how to succeed in the workforce while raising her kids alone. While Luz never imagined her life looking how it does now, she is grateful she persevered and created a new path in life for herself and her children. Through... her work at Closet on Main, Luz has been able to help the community and loves dedicating her spare time to assisting Single Mothers Outreach. Meet Empowering HeArts 2020 Honoree Cassandra Rivera: Cassandra Rivera has not had an easy life. In 2004, she was struck and drug by a car as a pedestrian. She suffered a multitude of injuriesthe most severe being a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed for a week. Refusing to let an accident destroy her life, Cassandra slowly regained the feeling in her legs and relearned to walk. Cassandra thought surviving the accident and recovering from her injuries would be the bi...ggest struggle she would face in life, but she was proven wrong. She has dealt with more life-changing events in the last decade and a half than most people have faced in a lifetime, and Cassandra continues to find joy while pushing onward.
