Day 79: Community Compassion...Day 6 and the crowds are getting larger, not smaller...today I joined the SF protest and was in the midst of thousands of young people and maybe 100 or so old folks like me (attendance is estimated to be 10,000). That the next generations are on the frontlines...that is the glimmer of hope I needed this week... May complacency no longer rule the day... And if only "nothing can be as before..." Day 75: Community Compassion My friend, Nancy, and I have differed in our politics for over 30 years - changed only recently by the mutual disgust of Agent Orange. In those 30 years, our mutual admiration for David Brooks, was the closest we alignment we had in the political arena. Day 70: #CommunityCompassion. On Memorial Day, Rick visits a veteran's cemetery and places flowers at a grave he chooses at random. I was honored to join him today as he went to the Presidio National Cemetary. We honored his father, Herman Bolanos, and my stepfather, Martin Gross, both of whom served in the Korean War. From there, I chose Lt. Col. Saad Khalil's grave for our flowers. Lt. Col. Khalil served our country in 3 wars and I couldn't help but wonder what some Ame...ricans would think of him if they only heard his given name, Saad Khalil. This country has not seen and probably will never know the true level of sacrifice of our veterans. As a civilian, I owe an unpayable debt to all our military. Day 67: Community Compassion - A long weekend is here (any different to long COVID weeks/months?!?) and for your viewing pleasure is the most amazing and talented Broadway ensemble to celebrate Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday to benefit ASTEP. I have had 2 "If you could be anything what would you want to be?" - the 1st is an interviewer (how I LOVE people's narratives), and the 2nd is a Broadway actress a la Elaine Stritch (without the alcoholism) performing anything Sondhei...m. Ask Rick, my mother, my friends, my ex-husband and they will tell you this is true. My emoting and dancing as a young girl caused my mother and step-father to nickname me Sarah Heartburn (yes, the proper name was Sarah Bernhardt). Day59: #Community Compassion: At age 48, I learned that the buzzing/ringing in my head - throughout my life - was NOT heard by everyone. This discovery led me on a path that I never predicted/never saw coming. Through the pain and disappointment, came revelation after revelation, which led to a huge transformation in my life.
