Absolutely nothing is ok, ignorable, or tolerable about the recent *and* ongoing, incessant, and brutal treatment of our Asian communities. Acute acts of violence are only one of so many ways white supremacy culture terrorizes those of us who don't "qualify" as white so that power can continue to be held by a privileged few. Lives are at stake every single day. It should not take shootings on the news to get the mass population to recognize the urgency of anti-racism.... Let us not forget the need to love and support our people through solidarity and actionnot just in our rage and grief today, but every day until we reach liberation!

#EAPLoves the American Indian Cultural District of San Francisco Founded on March 31st, 2020, the American Indian Cultural District (AICD) is the first established cultural district of its size in the United States dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and celebrating the American Indian legacy, culture, people, and contributions. Closely tied to the American Indian Cultural Center of San Francisco, AICD is a long-overdue space of visibility. ACTION: Learn more and donate gener...ously and often! Consider it paying rent as we benefit from living and working on traditional Ramaytush Ohlone homeland. AICD initiatives include The Indigenize Project, which is focused on honoring and celebrating American Indian culture, history, people, and contributions through works of art placed throughout the Cultural District. The project will help confront systematic erasure and add to the rich culture of San Francisco by increasing public awareness through visibility and an interactive experience provided through an Indigenous lens. American Indians (and Ramaytush Ohlone) are not a people of the past, but an integral and active community in the San Francisco Bay Area. https://americanindianculturaldistrict.org/

Hello EAP Community, and Welcome to the New Year! As 2020's mess bleeds into 2021, we hope you are able to find space for self- and community-care. EAP has been quiet the last few months on the public side as we shifted our labor from public programs to deep community strategy, advocacy, and equity work in response to the many and complex concerns of a difficult year. We will be re-launching public programs in the coming weeksincluding our Fellowship, Emergence, and Affinity... Circles. In the mean time, we would like to share info about some of the important work our partners, allies, and community leaders are doing at this time. Keep your eyes out for our #EAPLoves posts, as we invite you to explore and support the incredible work folks are doing! With deep gratitude, Your EAP Team

Emergence 2020: Community Capital, Collective Care STARTS TOMORROW - Join us this Monday through Wednesday with 6 sessions focusing on collective care and strategies outside of capitalism... If the current global pandemic and social upheaval has taught us anything it’s that our preconceived notions of capital and care in a late-stage capitalist society fall short when faced with adversity, especially in the sector of arts and culture. But what alternative methods are emerging...? Can community capital and collective care bridge society’s authentic needs? And what role do they play during times of emergency? How do we shift from a foundation of productivity to one of wellness? From desire to joy? Join us June 8, 9, & 10 for virtual, but meaningful, connection and exploration as we delve into these questions. EAP continues to stand in solidarity with our Black communities and against white supremacy. Our conversations around mutual aid and community care are needed more urgently now than before, and we will continue to reflect the needs of our communities during each Emergence session by holding space for responsive conversation, centering the voices of Black/POC/Indigenous/Queer/Trans community members, and working toward healing and justice in the short and long-term. Suggested donation of $8-20 but no one turned away for lack of funds Register at https://eap-emergence-2020.eventbrite.com

Our Cohort X fellow, Adrianne Ramsey, recently released the sixth issue of GIRLS Magazine. "GIRLS 6: Cliffhanger" is the second issue about the pandemic featuring interviews from four powerful women who are crucial to the art world: two curators, one arts administrator, and one art collector. This issue is an exploration into what the role of the art world should be during moments of global crisis and how arts institutions can make a meaningful impact while taking the necessary precautions of social distancing. We are excited to see our EAP Cohort IX alum featured in this issue: Qianjin Montoya. https://issuu.com/girlsmagazine3/docs/girls_6

One of our favorite tactics we've seen to provide mutual aid is to watch this youtube video created by Zoe Amira. filled with music, artists, and ads, your views *without pausing and on at least half volume* will generate funds to be donated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCgLa25fDHM

A statement on Emergence 2020: Community Capital, Collective Care: With the material and emotional realities of the pandemic still present, the heartbreak, exhaustion, and rage felt across our communities, and the absolutely beautiful show of resistance and solidarity on the streets, on the web, and in our homes -- our conversations around mutual aid and community care are needed more urgently now than before. We will continue to reflect the needs of our communities during each Emergence session by holding space for responsive conversation, centering the voices of Black/POC/Indigenous/Queer/Trans community members, and working toward healing and justice in the short and long-term.

My grief and fatigue has slowed my ability to publicly respond as the representative of EAP. This is not a reflection of the network or our organization, but a reflection of the weight Black Women in leadership often bear: to process and protect self and family or to push down the pain and represent the voice of the organization in a timely manner. I have opted for the former because I cannot muster the latter. But I ask that our community not hold this against EAP as a whole.... I have reached out to our fellows and leadership for support, and they have rallied to help be a group voice through our collective fight against white supremacy and the continued brutalization and criminalization of Black, Indigenous, POC, Queer, and Trans bodies. To anyone who has felt abandoned or hurt by my lack of response, I hope you can understand and forgive. And to this incredible network of fighters and artists and allies, I am forever grateful.
