We had a wonderful, well attended meeting today that included this former EGRC member, Bob Hoyme, who defected to Idaho last year. It was great to see his face and acknowledge the many wonderful contributions he made to the mentor/mentee program in our club.
Great presentation today delivered by our President Les and Director Debbie! Their topic Fundraising During Covid, was well received by over 140 incoming Presidents. Many clubs talked about doing their event with just a few people needed to make it happen. Our All Hands on Deck approach has always been key to our success. Also, huge thanks to incoming Pres Maryl Lee for assisting with the discussion outline. Congratulations! Way to go RCEG!
The 2021 Speech Contest showcased our mentees at their finest. Writing to the challenging theme of How 2020 Opened Opportunities the 12 competitors shared deeply mature and personal perspectives time and time again. It was impressive and moving for those of us attending. Our Dezerai took first place- again. Congratulations to each and every mentee we are so proud of you!
We got to hear a Rotary Moment from club President Les Wilmon about his decades long affiliation with Elk Grove and his 31 years of membership in RCEG. He's held every position except Treasurer which is quite a testament to his willingness to be of service. He clearly loves and is active with his family, most of whom live nearby and is especially happy to have his first granddaughter, Regan Lynn. We truly appreciate all you do for us!
It was a BLOCKBUSTER of a meeting yesterday. We had 52 people attending, many of them past Governors of District 5180 because there was an amazing announcement made by Barbara Tracy. Huge congratulations to RCEG Past President Sidney Smith who will be taking over the Governorship of our district in 2023/24! Members of our club watched PP Sidney lead last year with grace, wisdom and foresight. He is a deep thinker who knows how to build a solid team and motivate them to get the important jobs done. So happy for you, PP Sidney Smith!
Service Above Self has never been more important. The FourWay Test has never been more applicable. The fierce urgency of now has never been greater. This is our charge as Rotarians! Engagement is key. Let’s stay engaged in our calling.
We had an inspiring call tonight that included RCEG's mentees and mentors and students and staff at the Ururi School in Kenya. We are getting to know one another and look forward to future calls. Thank you to all who put effort into planning this time together.
Ururi students serenaded us with a beautiful medley of Christmas songs in two languages. It was a lovely moment.
Dezerai did a wonderful job of conducting our meeting tonight with students at the Ururi school in Kenya. The students played a word game, shared traditions and sang Christmas songs.
The Thankfulness Project! During the holidays the Rotary Club of Elk Grove presents groceries for holiday meals to students and their families through an effort called the Thankfulness Project. As you can imagine, planning and executing these activities this year will require additional efforts. Rotary Clubs have a long standing tradition of giving back. Each year the Rotary Club of Elk Grove sponsors events geared towards families. They include: ... Breakfast with Santa, Jessie Baker Christmas, Caroling at Adult Care facilities, Secret Santa and many others. The Thankfulness Project allows members to present families with a little boost during the holidays. To donate email [email protected] for further instructions l. Thank you!
The First Family of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove! Thank you President Les and Dena for leading the way for our biggest fundraiser of the year!
This beautiful young woman was up on stage singing like an angel at our fundraiser last year. Who knows the name of the band? She worked hard all night packaging food and handing it out to the cars rolling through. And she's not even a Rotarian. Yet.
Beef 'n Reef 2020 was a smash success, we handed delicious trio-tip dinners for four to hundreds of drive through diners in three hours on Saturday. Thank you for all your support! It was fun.
Now THIS is a practical gift. Have you checked out the many items in our auction catalog yet? If not, click on the post below and start your shopping.
At Rotary Grove today. Don’t miss the official introductions of our newest members Coming Soon!
Last week club members donated over 50 dinners (for four) to be distributed by the Elk Grove Food Bank. You all are amazing.
President Les Wilmon putting the finishing touches in place for our annual fundraiser Beef 'n Reef. Bidding on our 50 online auction items opens today at NOON!
Yesterday attendance at our weekly meeting was 38 strong. Guest speaker Amy Parker provided a wealth of information on current real estate trends in Elk Grove and surrounding areas. It is a seller's market all the way, fueled by high numbers of people re-locating and moving into homes with enough bedrooms to convert some to offices. Thank you President Les for inviting her.
It is a wonderful thing when a Rotary club grows during a pandemic. Last week we were pleased to induct two new members- Christie Drew and Irene Charnell. Welcome! Thanks to the ever energetic Nancy Lucia for facilitating the growth of our membership. Well done.
Man! Our President is really a great leader! Thank you President Les for growing our club and keeping us engaged! Salute! Pictured here is Lee (the ticket man) razzing President Les (seated) back in the good old days...
Preview of coming attractions. Our district is asking us to look at this upcoming event and share it with those you know. How many random acts of kindness are you up for?
