Social distancing can make us more vulnerable to symptoms of depression and anxiety....but it doesn’t have to!!! Here’s a list I made as a reminder: 1. Wake up early and get your hygiene on: shower, dress like your leaving the house, and apply your usual lotion/perfume/makeup. 2. Get some air and/or sun- walk out, even if it’s raining- get on your balcony, porch, side walk, backyard...just breathe. 10 slow breaths as you feel out the air, temperature, and sun. 3. Music! Bla...st your favorite tunes. Sing, dance, and play! Turn up the sound! 4. Write!! Keep a diary of your thoughts and feelings. Get everything out of your mind and on paper. You can also write a schedule and plan out your day- even small activities and tasks- write it down and check it off! 5. Get your laugh on! Comedy shows, podcasts, and books can be a great source of fun and joy. 6. Get out of your head and into your body- whether you follow along in a YouTube exercise video, practice yoga, or dance to your favorite music...just move!! 7. Meditate- close your eyes and just listen to your breath and notice how your body feels taking in the air around you. You can even chose a color for air and imagine it flowing in and out of your body. My favorite apps- headspace, calm, insight timer, and synctuition. 8. Be present. Consciously put your phone away/free distractions and completely focus on the activity, conversation, or task. One quick way to access this is to tap into your 5 senses and fully feel out what you are engaged in. That first sip of coffee hitting your tongue and throat. Try smelling a flower and gently feeling the different parts. Look into your loved one’s eyes as you notice how their facial expressions move (can also be done via video chat)....play around with this! 9. Social distancing does not have to mean isolation! Make those FaceTimes, calls, and emails! Great time to make friendships more meaningful and fulfilling. We all need someone more than ever right now. 10. Hydration and rest! Don’t forget about making healthy choices when it comes to sleep hygiene and diet. It makes a big difference! See more
