El Dorado Stake News & Events 03.05.2021

For the past year, we have all been dealing with dramatic and unexpected events. Amid such uncertainty, there is only one way to feel at peacethe real peace th...at passes all understanding. That peace is found in faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. On this Palm Sunday, I invite you to make this coming week truly holy by rememberingnot just the palms that were waved to honor the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalembut by remembering the palms of His hands. After all that Jesus Christ did for you, I invite you to do something this week to follow His teachings. You might make your prayers more earnest. You could forgive someone or help a friend in need. You can start today on a new spiritual quest. If you are looking for a place to worship, please join with us on Easter Sunday for the worldwide general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We will gather virtually to worship our Redeemer. Please join with us. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//e/general-conference

The 2021 El Dorado Stake Community Day of Service We are pleased to announce that community conditions will allow us to move ahead with this year’s Rise & Shine Community Day of Service on May 1st. Most of our projects will be centered in the City of Placerville, but we will have a group at Coloma State Park as well. Almost all projects consist of trimming, trash pick-up, and spreading mulch. We will once again be using the Eventbrite.com registration system to help us involve a broad base of community members. This opportunity was also shared to every utility customer in the City of Placerville. You can view all the details of each project and register right here: https://rise-and-shine-2021.eventbrite.com

FOOD BANK SERVICE PROJECT: YOU TOO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We were fortunate enough to serve at the Food Bank the Friday before Christmas Week. My husband, I, and our 3 children (children's ages are 4, 7, and 8). It was a great activity for us as a family to serve in the community. It was safe, it was in a great location. The kids loved the assembly line format of the service. It was good for the children to be part of a community effort to serve those in need. We were there for about 1 hour (one of them got hungry so we had to leave early), but there were plenty of people there to take over our part of the assembly line. We hope to do it again. To all members of the El Dorado Stake: Dear brothers and sisters, We take this opportunity today on this national holiday celebrating Martin Luther King and this wonderful country to send our love and greetings. We give you our witness that the Lord directs his servants who lead this Church and many are the spiritual blessings we see in the lives of the saints during this pandemic so negatively affecting the health of so many. ... Today we ask for your prayers that there will be peace in our country this week. The First Presidency sent a message this last weekend to remind us of our covenant to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ, and His teachings. "As His followers, we should treat one another and all of God's children with respect, dignity, and love. No political or other affiliation should supersede that covenant and sacred responsibility". The prophet condemned violence and lawless behavior. Elder D. Todd Christopherson of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles will be speaking to us this next Sunday at 2 pm. Also there will be leadership sessions and a Youth Devotional on Saturday, January 23rd. and as mentioned a devotional for all members on Sunday the 24th at 2 pm. All wards except Bass Lake will hold their regular scheduled sacrament meeting broadcasts before the 2 pm devotional. The youth and the "all member" devotionals will be livestreamed just like our sacrament meetings are viewed. The links are as follows: Livestream link for All Member Devotional from 2 pm to 3:15 pm on Sunday January 24th http://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//california-sac/2021/01 Livestream link for youth devotional on Saturday January 23rd http://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//california-sac/2021/01 Brother Dave Hoppe, our stake executive secretary, is sending the zoom links for the Saturday morning leadership session links to all stake and ward leaders. Please watch for his email that has specific instructions of who is to attend and how to log on. Our focus this year is to help each other and especially our children and youth to develop in their (1) spiritual, (2) social, (3) intellectual, and (4) physical lives. May we implement the complete "Come Follow Me" curriculum by setting goals in these four areas and working to make them come to pass. We "bind" the adversary with our righteous planning and work. Let's make 2021 one of the greatest years of our lives because of our deliberate plans and actions. Each ward rolled out this Children and Youth Initiative last year at this time but the pandemic perhaps slowed us down in the implementation. Lets make it our big focus as we start 2021. Sincerely, The El Dorado Stake Presidency
