Madeline Franke and Virginia Meyer are volunteers on the Bass Lake Working Group's Habitat Committee. The pair have been working with Rowland Gaal, El Dorado Hills Promise Foundation Board member and BLRP Habitat Committee chair, identifying native plants like the one pictured, called mimulus douglasii, a species of monkeyflower known by the common names brownies and purple mouse ears. "Our early goal is to locate, tag and identify as many native plants as possible, so distri...ct staff can utilize the information when designing trails and pavilions, allowing plants to be viewed as points of interest without causing damage to them. We also look forward to providing the plant information to the public for educational purposes. -Madeline Franke, California Native Plant Society -Virginia Meyer, California Native Plant Society Sending our thanks to the entire Habitat Committee: Rowland Gaal Mike Denega Kit Veercamp Madeline Franke Jason Pittman Fran Keller Jim Cassio Rick Williams Jeff Wilcox Deb Ayres Duane Heglie Dave Wyatt Virginia Meyer Alice & Lester Cantelow Jeff Hendy Adam Panto William Bianco Steve Clark Jessica Stoner Clay Bassard Kaitlin Davey Mike Sobczyk Sarah Ford Nick Rogness Check out our current volunteer opportunities by visiting VolunteerHub: https://edhcsd.volunteerhub.com/ #VolunteerAppreciationMonth

Wallace "Wally" Richardson became a sailor for the U.S. Navy in July 1941, and on December 7, 1941 everything changed. Wally was on the first convoy to arrive in Pearl Harbor, and it became a pivotal moment in his life as this was how WWII started for him. This video shares some of his experience in Pearl Harbor. Wally served until 1947, and went to college until 1948 when the U.S. Navy began looking for 2600 experienced air craft pilots, and of course, Wally was one of thos...e pilots. In 1961 he retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years and one day of service. Six days later he was hired by United Airlines where he spent another 30 years and six months. Wally ended his career as a pilot with over 40,000 hours of airtime, and he will tell you he never worked a day in life! #PearlHarborRemembranceDay https://youtu.be/KgotlYAEdA0
