Wendy David has served on the El Dorado Community Foundation Board of Directors since 2015 and has always been a thoughtful and engaged leader in that role. Wendy is no stranger to community leadership, having served as South Lake Tahoe's Mayor. She cares deeply about her community in South Lake Tahoe but never loses sight of the needs of all El Dorado County residents. Wendy has been a boon to have on the El Dorado Community Foundation Board of Directors and her engagement helps keep us focused and driven.

Brian Veerkamp is the newest member of the El Dorado Community Foundation's Board of Directors, joining at the beginning of 2020. Brian is no stranger to serving the community he grew up in and loves. An El Dorado County native and former supervisor, Brian's knowledge of what makes El Dorado County tick brings incredible value to our Board and we are fortunate to have him!

David Orr, co-founder of Cowork Tahoe and passionate member of the South Lake Tahoe community, is the youngest member of the El Dorado Community Foundation Board of Directors. David always provides a valuable and fresh perspective to issues facing the community and his leadership has been a boon to the Foundation. Between mountain biking, raising his family, and running a successful business that is a cornerstone of the South Lake Tahoe Community, David still finds time to give back through his contribution to the Foundation's Board. We are all fortunate to have him!

Because of you, in 2020, over $2 Million dollars was given back to assist our community. The El Dorado Community Foundation manages a Community Relief Fund to help with urgent community need due to catastrophes such as fire disasters and recently the pandemic. It was seriously depleted this last year for urgent food and housing needs due to the impact of COVID-19 on families. There is still need for help due to the pandemic but we also realize we need to be prepared for the f...ire season and beyond. Your contribution will assist us in the unexpected, and the unexpected is what we plan for as a foundation because that is who we are, always ready. Ready to assist the single parent trying to pay the utility bills while being laid off due to a pandemic, ready to assist a retired adult on a limited budget trying to meet the needs of relocation due to a fire, ready to prevent eviction, ready to support local business, ready to support where support is needed. If you are one of the lucky families not impacted financially and would like to SHARE YOUR RELIEF, please consider donating a part of your stimulus check to help support and protect our communities. All donations will be tax deductible. Click to donate: https://edcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1243

I think we can all agree that a lot happened in 2020. It wasn't all bad though. Here are some of the highlights of 2020 for the El Dorado Community Foundation: 1. We assisted in the formation of not one but TWO new El Dorado County nonprofits, Feed El Dorado and Housing El Dorado. 2. We took on the 2020 Census and had a very successful outcome in getting much of the county counted, during a pandemic no less!... 3. We built upon already strong relationships with local government, nonprofits, and small businesses as both a partner and a source of hope. What are some positive things that happened for you in 2020?

Winter is coming and with it comes hot cocoa, cozy nights by the fire, and a greater risk of the spread of airborne pathogens. PPEs like hand sanitizer and face masks are essential along with social distancing to help prevent that spread. To help local businesses, the county is providing free PPEs to El Dorado County businesses with fewer than 100 employees. Distribution of these free PPEs is being handled by Tahoe Prosperity Center for South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado Hills Chamb...er of Commerce for the El Dorado Hills area, and the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce for the rest of El Dorado County. Today we celebrate 11 years of hard work, dedication, compassion, and service. Karen Carter started her journey with the El Dorado Community Foundation in 2010 as a member of the Grants Committee and would go on to join the Foundation's Board of Directors in 2012. Karen became the Chair of the Grants Committee in 2016 and the President of the Board in 2018. She also serves on the Foundation's Finance Committee, all while raising her children and running a successful business.... Karen Carter has been a gift to the Foundation and her presence will be missed after she terms off of the Board at the end of this year. She has been a constant source of wisdom and guidance for over a decade and while we are saddened by the prospect of her absence, we are forever grateful for her presence over these last 11 years. Our community is lucky to have you, Karen. From the staff and Board of the Foundation, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Every year Images of Hope gives up Pink in the Night through the month of October to help raise awareness of cancer here in our community. Images of Hope's mission is to provide healing arts to patients, their family, and anyone in our community that has been touched by cancer. This includes yoga, meditation, art therapy, music therapy, pilates, massage, a day on the river, equine therapy, and stress reduction classes. With October nearly over we wanted to call attention to their efforts one last time before the month ends. To learn more about Images of Hope, visit: https://www.imagesofhopeeldorado.com/

A new organization, Housing El Dorado, has been established to identify, provide, and develop sustainable and affordable housing on the Western Slope of El Dorado County. This last week, Housing El Dorado submitted a congregate sheltering plan, the Pathways Project, to the El Dorado County Public Health Department. Upon review by Dr. Nancy Williams, Public Health Officer of El Dorado County, the plan was approved. Dr. Williams was very appreciative of the comprehensive approa...ch that was taken in developing the winter shelter plan, Pathways Project. In sheltering individuals so much can be accomplished in moving them forward into sustainability in both their housing and their lives. The Pathways Project will identify a cohort comprised of individuals who will receive services beginning December 1st and extending through the winter months that will include sheltering, case management, and a pathway to sustainability in their lives. The Pathways Project is a unified effort combining the coordination of Housing El Dorado and the Upper Room with the organizational support of the El Dorado Community Foundation.

As a Foundation of Names, the El Dorado Community Foundation recognizes each and every one of our donors and the contributions they provide to our community. Jeff and Barbara Lee are local donors who created the Lee Family Foundation Fund at the Foundation to help provide care for domestic animals and wildlife while also preserving and protecting natural land for public use. The Lees are an example of caring donors who "walk the walk", donating not just money but also time to... the causes they support. Their passion for animals, and German Shepherds in particular, has helped the El Dorado Community Foundation identify some organizations that may be good candidates for potential future funding through a restricted trust whose donor was also passionate about German Shepherds. We are thankful for everything our donors provide us with, including their wisdom! Jeff, Barbara, and Aksel (the beautiful German Shepherd in the photo) Lee are true champions of the furry members of this community. Thank you to the Lees and to all of the donors who make a difference in lives big and small.

This year the challenges facing the community of South Lake Tahoe look different than ever before. With a summer of experience, and the concerns and problem sets that developed over the last several months, it was determined that a pivot in what Give Tahoe grants to was ne...cessary, timely, and well-focused. On October 1, 2020, Give Tahoe opens the 2020 Pivot Grant process for nonprofits serving the South Shore of Lake Tahoe to apply for funding. The focus of the Pivot Grants will be to address the emerging problems that have occurred in the community, providing financial resources to strategies aimed at improving quality of life for those that call South Lake Tahoe home. This week Bill Roby had the pleasure of meeting with Ken Pimlott and Audrey Pearce. Ken is running for Supervisor in District 2 and is dedicated to improving all aspects of life in District 2 and in all of El Dorado County. One of those aspects is the health and prosperity of our small business community. Audrey Pearce is the owner of The Breakroom, a restaurant in Shingle Springs. The Breakroom is one of 256 recipients of the recent CARES Act funded Small Business Grant administered by the El Dorado Community Foundation. Many small businesses all throughout El Dorado County are being provided with much needed relief from these grants. Joan Barsotti is another name that we honor here at the El Dorado Community Foundation. Joan’s legacy to this community was her amazing talent for story telling shown in her children’s books and in the incredible story of the Wakamatsu Tea & Silk Colony and Okei San, The Girl from Wakamatsu. Joan Barsotti’s talent did not stop there, however, for she also had a talent for loving people in all walks of life. She was a friend to everyone, and her motto was that there were no st...rangers, just friends she had not met yet. Joan was a remarkable woman whose name, memory, and legacy lives on in the community she loved so dearly. To honor her memory the Barsotti family opened the Joan Barsotti Foundation to support Wakamatsu, CASA El Dorado, and local scholarships. This fund is part of over 260 funds that have been established at the El Dorado Community Foundation.

As a Foundation of Names, we must remember the names of those who are no longer with us. We must honor them in our memories and in the legacy they left behind. Jean Tindel and Anne Finck left a legacy of love, love for the bright future that our children represent and love for a strong health care system to keep us around long enough to help shape and mold that bright future. Their legacy of love established an endowment that supports organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, CASA El Dorado, and the Cancer Center of Marshall Hospital to help them continue their important work in ensuring a bright future into perpetuity. That kind of love is the foundation upon which community is built and their love will never be forgotten.

It goes without saying that the El Dorado Community Foundation would not be what it is today without the many donors who have utilized the Foundation for their charitable giving throughout the years. While all of those donors have names, many of them choose to remain anonymous. However, anonymous should not mean that they go unappreciated. As a Foundation of Names, we would like to recognize all of those individuals who choose to remain unnamed. We would like them all to know that their contributions through the years to various charitable concerns have been deeply appreciated and have helped countless nonprofits thrive and fulfill their missions to serve the communities of El Dorado County. You have the sincere thanks of your community, and of your Community Foundation.

With the help of many dedicated individuals, Bill has guided the Foundation to sustainability and made it the organization it is today. Next up is Lois Roberts, our Donor Services Coordinator. Kathy Haven, the Foundation's newest addition and our Program Coordinator, brings invaluable experience as an educator, grant writer, and champion of the nonprofit community. This experience makes her perfectly suited to managing the Foundation's many competitive grant cycles and scholarships. The Foundation's Accountant, Sakina Madraswala, brings a level of financial and accounting expertise to us that any organization would envy. Her dedication to ensuring transparency and fiscal accountability to the Foundation has gone a long way in ensuring credibility and building the trust of the community. Finally, Chris Ringnes, the Foundation's Executive Administrator, is responsible for the day-to-day functionality of the Foundation and its staff, ensuring everything runs smooth with a high degree of professionalism . Additionally, Chris has taken on the responsibility of guiding much of the Foundation's communications and public relations. The El Dorado Community Foundation, with the assistance of our donors, has been able to provide financial support to 87 El Dorado County small businesses. The generosity of the donations that came in to support this cause has allowed us to provide this financial support to all of the small businesses that applied. This is just one of the many things we do as a Foundation. We are a grantor, a convener, a problem solver, a collaborator, and a collective of engaged donors who care about the community in which they live. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!

As we approach The Big Day of Giving on May 7th, we find our local nonprofit community in greater need than ever before. If we don't support our nonprofits through this pandemic and resulting financial crisis, we stand to lose many of them along with the essential services they provide. We are asking each and every one of you to support your favorite nonprofit or nonprofits this Big Day of Giving in any way that you can. Help them survive, we cannot afford to let them disappear. #Community #BigDayofGiving

Since March 1st the El Dorado Community Foundation has granted $252,622.50 back into the community in the form of both nonprofit support and immediate need support for families currently in crisis as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this need will be ongoing and will likely get worse as weeks and months go by without a vaccine. As a community we cannot take our foot off the gas pedal now, we must continue to come together and support not only our local families in crisis but our nonprofit community as well. Please consider giving to help El Dorado County remain strong. Visit https://ssl.charityweb.net/eldoradocf/CVRF.htm

Last year the El Dorado Community Foundation released a donor resource called the Giving Guide. This print publication was a window into the nonprofit community giving donors valuable information about each organization within the guide. As allies of the nonprofit community, we know that nonprofit resilience is key to a strong overall community. This year we have moved the print publication to an online Nonprofit Directory, allowing for unlimited growth in an easy to update format. Check out your new guide to giving here: https://eldoradocf.org/nonprofit-directory/

Within the next few weeks, many members of the community will be receiving their aid payments from the recent stimulus bill. We have been approached by several individuals in the community for whom the $1,200 or $2,400 will mean very little. Many feel they are doing fine, and their stimulus payment would do so much more for the countless families not fortunate enough to still have employment and those struggling even to put food on the table. Many have expressed interest in donating their stimulus payment and if you are among those that feel this way, we would encourage you to donate it to the Coronavirus Relief Fund at the El Dorado Community Foundation where you know 100% of that donation will go to help those with the most need within our local community. They say a picture is worth a thousand words To the El Dorado Community Foundation, this picture of this week’s stack of grant checks going out to local families in need and local community organizations serving our great community in these unprecedented times, is one such picture. The words it brings to mind for us are gratitude, pride, love, and honor. Gratitude toward our donors who have made these grants possible, pride in our nonprofits stepping up their support in this... difficult time, love for a community that we see coming together instead of coming apart, and honor to be a part of it all. Together we will get through this and will remain, El Dorado Strong.

Together we can build a legacy Jean and Steve Myers left a legacy gift intended to support the South Lake Tahoe branch of the El Dorado County Library allowing extended hours of operation at the Library and the hiring of additional staff to work those hours. Jean and Steve Myers understood the importance of such a gift to the Library and knew the benefit it would bring to the community they loved dearly. To the Myers, the Library was a place of discovery, education, exploration, knowledge, and growth. Their legacy will ensure it will continue to be all of that and more for generations to come. #Legacy #Community
