Face coverings, Instructor and Student Windows down or A/C on fresh air setting Instructors have a recent negative virus test Students have no symptoms, and no one in their household has been ill for over 14 days DMV has taken important steps: Permit expirations has been extended by 6 months, and they are calling to reschedule all March-June appointments to July or later. We are glad to know that California is making progress dealing with COVID-19, as *some* Phase 2 businesses open on Friday. Driving Schools are in the Phase 3 category, which involves people being closer than 6 feet apart. Our training cars aren’t that wide! As eager as we are to resume teaching our thorough lessons, we are not able to restart yet. You’ll probably find out as soon as we do when Phase 3 begins. We can’t wait to (safely) see our students and their parents again!

While the California DMV has suspended all driving tests and driving schools cannot conduct professional driving lessons right now, the role of parents to supervise new drivers is more important than ever. Unlike Georgia, our state still requires passing a driving test before issuing a drivers license. In California, new drivers must get at least 50 hours of supervised practice and 6 hours of professional lessons before being eligible to take the DMV behind-the-wheel test. DMV has extended Permit expirations by 60 days, and may extend even longer. At some point, hopefully soon, we will be allowed to resume offering our driver training curriculum. We will provide a new level of health safety in our cars as we teach a higher level of driving safety. https://www.caranddriver.com//covid-disruption-parents-h/

While we are temporarily unable to offer in-car driver training, here’s something to ponder: what makes the most sense as your teenager’s first car? Something inexpensive or something new? Both good arguments are here. We look forward to seeing our new drivers again soon. When we get the green light, our Team of Instructors will be ready to provide an excellent experience in a safe environment. Our Office is still answering phones 9-1 weekdays, and we’ll start scheduling lessons as soon as we can. Stay healthy, and wash your hands! https://www.caranddriver.com//the-debate-should-your-tee/

As we temporarily suspend all driving lessons, DMV has issued an update. Written tests require a visit to a DMV Field Office. While offices remain open, you can’t enter without an existing appointment, and no new appointments are available right now. The DMV Certificate of Completion for online Drivers Education does not expire, so we still offer the online course so teenagers can make progress toward their goal while school is out. Our Office staff is answering your phone calls at 619.401.5342 and setting up Drivers Ed 9am-1pm weekdays. DMV has suspended all in-car driving tests, so no new licenses can be issued. Visit DMV.ca.gov for updates.

As schools and other public gatherings are being cancelled, we are taking important steps for the health and safety of our driving students. No social distancing is possible in a driving lesson, but most new drivers need to keep making progress toward learning safe skills. We have always had the good habits of washing hands before and after lessons, and keeping our training cars clean. To that we have updated our Company Policy to include: No more hand shakes before or af...ter lessons Wiping all touch points in our cars with disinfectant: steering wheel, gear shift, seat and mirror controls, etc. Any employee showing signs of illness will be removed from client contact pending a doctor’s release that they are safe to work We reserve the right to cancel a lesson with a student showing signs of illness for the protection of our upcoming students in the car We will continue to provide an excellent learning environment for new drivers, with this added emphasis on everyone’s health safety. We have also canceled our upcoming Drivers Education classroom program for Spring Break. We continue to offer an interactive online class; just call our Office at 619.401.5342 and they will provide an access code to get started. Wash your hands and cover your coughs!

Driving in parking lots can cause a lot of anxiety, so we teach new drivers to manage the tight spaces and hazards of distracted pedestrians. We agree with pulling through a perpendicular space if the far side is open. That makes it safer to leave the space going forward. BUT, if another driver is waiting to use that space from the opposite aisle, they had first dibs, and you should back up onto the original space. However, we instruct on backing out because it’s more of a challenge, and our goal is to teach. As always, safety and courtesy are top priorities in driving! https://jalopnik.com/is-it-okay-to-pull-through-one-parking

Welcome our newest Green Teen Driving Machine! This 2020 Toyota Hybrid is even greener than our other 10 cars, averaging 54 mpg in a thousand miles of private use so far. It has the proven efficiency and durability of a Prius without the unusual speedometer and shifter that confuse new drivers. Look for it on the road soon.

Our Drivers Education program, offered in both classroom and online formats, reviews the importance of lines painted on pavement and how they developed. This video does a deep dive to explain this simple but effective driver safety device that we take for granted. https://m.youtube.com/watch

Our expertise in driver training extends beyond teaching new drivers. We also teach the latest techniques to professional drivers who spend their days at the wheel of limos and executive sedans, passenger vans with medical patients or autistic children, and many types of service vehicles. We also teach the same good habits to teenagers so they learn like a pro too.
