Today, the Street Vendor Emergency Fund deployed over $30,000 directly to street vendors in South LA. In total, we have deployed almost $450,000 since the pande...mic began. We are so thankful to our supporters, volunteers, and donors who have helped us get $400 cash cards to over 1,100 street vendors. We also distributed information on the Census (We Count L.A.), fighting anti-blackness in the street vendor community, and hand sanitizers and masks secured by the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. Part of the magic of this effort has been our partnership with Community Power Collective, Public Counsel, East LA Community Corporation, and also a simple application process that gathers basic information and allows for street vendors in need to self certify their need without too much paperwork. The network of vendor leaders also helps us verify that street vendors that apply are indeed, street vendors. We’re also thankful for our volunteers who help make calls to make sure that street vendors have assistance to apply and where to go to pick up their card. The pandemic is far from over. As we continue to support relief efforts, we have to work together to make sure that all resources we are organizing are accessible to street vendors who have little to no other means of assistance and are dealing with so much right now. #covid19relief #streetvendorjustice #economicjustice #protectstreetvendors

Today, we experienced the heartbreaking loss of our affordable housing site for homeless veterans and low-income families, Nuevo Amanecer, which was only three months away from completion. The construction site in East LA was destroyed by a fire early this morning and families living in a nearby building were displaced.
