#COVID19 is taking a disproportionate and deadly toll on Black Americans, but data from 23 states shows that they’re receiving the #CovidVaccine at a much lower rate than their white peers. Barriers to access are part of the problem, according to recent analysis from California Healthline. Failure to address the mistrust surrounding vaccines and the medical system overall is another. The Eisner Health team was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. H. Jack Geiger, a pioneer of the #CommunityHealthCenter model. Dr. Jack Geiger believed doctors should not just treat illnesses, but work to change the underlying social conditions that cause them. At one clinic, it was his habit to prescribe food for families with malnourished children to be purchased from Black-owned groceries and pay the bills out of the center’s pharmacy budget.
