As Salaam Alikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu With great sadness, Masjid al Tawheed would like to inform you that our respected brother, Haji Mohammad Nabi Sherzai has passed away. He is survived by his sons Mohammad Kamil Sherzai and Mohammad Faisal Sherzai and other members of the Sherzai family.... Mohammad Nabi Sherzai was a long time member of our community and contributed immensely towards the establishment of Masjid Tawheed along with other projects in the Bay Area that benefitted the Muslim community. He also dedicated time as a Board Member of Masjid al Tawheed. We are deeply saddened by this loss and pray that Allah accepts his deeds, opens the gates of Jannah for him and gives patience to all of his family and friends. This lecture series will be led by Sheikh Munif Nawaf Kasem al Terkawi on Sundays after Isha prayer starting Sunday November 8th. We are pleased to announce that we have received confirmed sightings of the hilal, thus marking Thursday August 20th as the beginning of the sacred month of Muharram. Fasting and good deeds are recommended in general during this month. Regarding Ashura, it was narrated by Abu Qatadah that the Prophet was asked about observing fasting on the 10th day of Muharram, and he replied "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year." - Ibn Majah This year the day of 'Ashura (1...0th of Muharram) will be on Saturday August 29th. Muslims can choose to fast the 9th and 10th (Friday and Saturday), or the 10th and 11th (Saturday and Sunday).
