Retention in the Workplace-A Millennials Prerogative More than likely, non-millennials are hearing countless reports and statics of millennials job-hopping from one company to the next. We chuck the rumors up as the younger working adults are lazy, or they expect more for less. However, we never consider why they job hop. We assume the new generation does not respect hard work or they are the give me generation. We believe this generation does not want to start from the... bottom and progress to higher positions within a company. No, this new generation is looking for an award without winning; let us call them the winning team. However, perhaps a more underlining purpose is in play, and just maybe they have a clear reasoning behind the madness. TCC Wireless has hundreds of stores nationwide with a staggering 85 percent of those are Millennials. Sounds impossible but in fact, the retention is extremely high with 20 percent of employees falling below the national average for retailers and profits are at a record gain Elton and Gostick (2017). TTC Wireless began implementing a backpack program to help children in need across the country with school supplies. The employees’ engagement was unbelievable because the workers had a purpose other than making a profit but instead doing more for the greater good of the world. This giveaway is now an annual tradition. The company is planning on donating 300,000 backpacks this year with sponsorship. TCC slogan is Culture of good, which gives back to the community and employees (Elton & Gostick, 2017). What’s the difference? The difference is TCC Wireless is not just making a profit, but making a difference in the world. The millennials want their part in the world to matter because they are not only working for money but change. In society, money is a major player and a part of life; we need money to live, eat, and survive. However, the Millennials are looking for more than tradition; they are looking for the real meaning of life. A greater good may be the answer to "Why am I here?" and "What is my purpose?" Maybe this generation is the group of doing unto others, as you would want them to do unto you. Angie Monette, Publisher Education II Careers, 2017 Elton, C., & Gostick, A. (2017, March). Saving for College-The Landscape of the 21st Century More Americans are continuing education, in fact, one out of every five families consider education a priority over retirement. Happy New Year From: Education II Careers Education II Careers (EIIC) would like to reflect on how wonderful 2016 was for the organization. The accomplishments of last year were a remarkable milestone. We would like to thank our affiliates, volunteers, board members, and students who believe in a brighter tomorrow. As we look to the future, now more than ever before, education is crucial to landing a career. Organizations are seeking employees who can offer skills such as ...emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and higher learning. EIIC receive inquiries often from parents and students regarding what are the requirements to land the perfect job. Question: is College enough to land the ideal occupation? The answer is no, college is just a fragment of landing the perfect job; however, having a degree is what employers are looking for in candidates applying for jobs. We encourage you, your family, and friends to learn more about planning for college by proactively speaking to your school counselor or an Independent Educational Consultant. Speaking with an Educational Consultant can help with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Master Promissory Note (MPN), Parent Plus Loan, College Application, seeking the right scholarship and grants, and not taking out additional loans with high-interest rates, and avoiding Unscrupulous for-profit colleges. EIIC is available to help you with your educational success and career journey. Happy New Year!!! For more information about college, please visit https://www.educationto.careers/home.html
