With this recent #shutdown for #lacounty we face not making it by only providing #takeout options. It hasn’t been enough to sustain our business. ... It’s #domesticviolenceawareness month Wings Shelter is one of very few shelters that allow men and teenage boys. The families are in the most critical situations and are housed for 45 days. They arrive with nothing and are scared. Wings has been helping these families starting in 1979 with a rape crisis hotline and the actual shelter structure in 1982. Some general statistic...s: - Intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every year - Nearly 3 in 10 women and 1 in 10 men in the US have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by a partner and reported it having a related impact on their functioning. - 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 and older in the US have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. - Most female victims of intimate partner violence were previously victimized by the same offender at rates of 77% for women ages 18-24, 76% for ages 25-34, and 81% for ages 35-49.
