Neck Rehab - Here are some clips from a recent session at @edge.physiotherapy with a patient dealing with persistent neck pain - Her main issues include pinching pain when turning her head side to side, pain when looking up for long periods and pain when turning in bed... - After a few visits where we worked on improving the mobility of her upper cervical spine and thoracic spine, we shifted our focus to making the cervical, thoracic, and scapular musculature stronger and more resilient to load (some examples shown here) - This, in addition to some coordination exercises (learning how to move in several ways that don't aggravate her symptoms), has helped her tremendously and allowed her to take a recent 2 week trip internationally without any issues (she was a little nervous about the trip and how her neck would feel beforehand!) - With a little guidance, reassurance, persistence, and specific targeted rehab, you CAN get better and develop more CONFIDENCE in your body and what you are capable of! - Do you struggle with neck pain or have any questions related to this post? - Leave a comment below or send me a message so we can discuss! - If you'd like to set up an appointment, please give us a call! Achilles’ tendon rupture . Common injuries relate to: Obesity Aging... Poor running mechanics Foot mechanics : flat feet or rigid foot Forced push off or poor landing mechanics . 1st picture :Common injury is a few inches above the Achilles insertion. 2nd picture: KD is likely grabbing his Achilles to check if there is a palpable gap which is common 3rd picture: KDs flat feet and toe curvature may have predisposed him to injury . For clips on some Achilles activities done at EDGE see prior post! . Mechanisms leading to injury: - overuse!Tendons have poor vascularity leading to slower healing in general - Poor flexibility! Repetitive tension on tendon maladaptive changes physically in the tendon . Signs of possible Achilles tendon compromise: - thickening of tendon (does it feel wider compared to the other side?) - Palpable module on tendon or back of heeI (is there a bump in the tendon?) - Poor flexibility (when you squat can you keep your heels down?) - Foot anatomy: flat feet, bunyon/angled big toe . Healing time: -post surgery : 6-9 months for full return to sport at minimum -tendinitis: 3-6 weeks depending on severity -tendinosis: 3-6 months depending on severity and chronicity . What to do: - Assessment with a trained MEDICAL orthopedic professional - ACTIVE treatment for long term care - Passive treatment for ACUTE short term care . MORE BASEBALL - While shoulder strength is important for throwing, most of our POWER should come from energy generated and transferred from the lower extremity. - Multiloop Bands are useful to anchor and wrap around multiple regions as ONE chain.... - Here we are working on his RIGHT posterior chain. Right shoulder stability(scapulohumeral) Right to left trunk movement to Left lower extremity stability (hip stability , hip and knee centration, foot stability) - Simple. Precise.
