GETTING RID OF WOOD IN AN ECOLOGICALLY SOUND WAY 3.20.17 Hi friends,... I learned something new this week. Once mold spores grow on wood, you will waste your time attempting to clean, or salvage the wood. I've tried bleach, concrobium, soap and water, and even staining the wood! They grow back!!! Now, if you're in the Bay Area and need to get rid of untreated wood, most transfer stations or landfills will accept it because it can either be reused or chopped down and used for mulch. However, if your wood is treated, or it's particle board, uh-oh. Only 2 places I am aware of in the semi-local area that accept it. How crazy is that? No wonder you see so much dumping that happens on off roads, etc... 1. Recology in Vacaville on Hay Rd. 2. Potrero Hills Landfill in Suisun. I just used an ecologically sound hauler goes there occasionally to get rid of my bed which had developed mold spores on it while. Nice guy: Matthew at "I'm Hauling For You!" 707-315-3226 Thank you for thinking about your impact on the planet. Renee
hi there, Unfortunately, Green Citizen in Berkeley has closed down. However, another place where you can take whole styrofoam, not peanuts, is to the El Cerrito Recycling Center on Schmidt Ln. Here is the link:... http://www.el-cerrito.org/index.aspx?NID=336 As far as peanuts go. I find small mailing service companies, not chains, and often offer them to them--they are usually happy to use them. Until styrofoam becomes a thing of the past, please do your part to take it somewhere that will deal with it in a way that keeps it out of the land fill. Once again: STYROFOAM IS NON-BIODEGRADABLE. thank you!
Dear friends, I would love nothing more than to put styrofoam manufacturers totally out of business. Its the most destructive, useless material around. It is not biodegradable, although it it reusable. Green Citizen works with a company that will turn it into surfboard packing material. Nevertheless, better options are out there and I hope companies see them and begin to transition.
Happy Earth Day! I really love this company and use it often for recycling. Most interesting is that they take styrofoam and are able to pack it down to a hard substance and use it as filling for things like surfboards and other products. Styrofoam is NOT biodegradable in any way, ever, so reusing it or transforming it is the only way to go. I encourage people to request businesses they work with often to switch to paper packing.... Cheers! Renee
