ECOM Engineering, Inc. 17.11.2020

On October 20th, 2017 ECOM Engineering, Inc. celebrated their 20th Year in business. The owners, Eric Johnson, Mark Schlenker and Dave Smith decided to spend the day with their staff. We began with a ride in a limo bus to Top Golf to shoot a couple of rounds of golf balls just to warm up. The weather was great and the staff enjoyed being outdoors. Then we took a short ride to Thunder Valley Casino to enjoy a private room for lunch and a little blackjack. The theme was M...ob Style to show that we are all part of the family. Everyone was assigned a Mob name and title which brought a little humor to the party. The food was excellent, everything from the Prime Rib to the Cheesecake was to die for. The room was decorated with Fedora’s, Carnations and Pearls, with Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. To add to the fun we hired private blackjack dealers for the tournament and instructed them to egg on the players and help them make bad decisions (Like the dealer in National Lampoons Las Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase). At the end of 2 hours we ended up with three (3) winners; Albert Dennis who gave a good fight but found himself distracted by the gaming floor on the other side of the door, he ended up placing 3rd in the tournament. Eric Johnson placed 2nd and donated his winnings to Jose Munoz who placed 4th. Finally the big winner was Casey Bennett who placed 1st and earned the grand prize. It was a great way to celebrate with the people we spend most of our lives with. Thank you Eric, Mark and Dave for a wonderful day. Congratulations on the first 20 years!

ECOM Engineering attended BICSI in Las Vegas for the Fall Conference in September! This conference brought together thousands of attendees, exhibitors and Exhibit Hall visitors, from all over the globe! BICSI is a professional association supporting the advancement of the information and communications technology (ICT) community. ICT covers the spectrum of voice, data, electronic safety & security, project management and audio & video technologies. It encompasses the design, ...integration and installation of pathways, spaces, optical fiber- and copper-based distribution systems, wireless-based systems and infrastructure that supports the transportation of information and associated signaling between and among communications and information gathering devices. BICSI provides information, education and knowledge assessment for individuals and companies in the ICT industry. BICSI serves nearly 23,000 ICT professionals, including designers, installers and technicians. These individuals provide the fundamental infrastructure for telecommunications, audio/video, life safety and automation systems. Through courses, conferences, publications and professional registration programs, BICSI staff and volunteers assist ICT professionals in delivering critical products and services, and offer opportunities for continual improvement and enhanced professional stature. ECOM attended the BICSI classes as well as visited the manufacture booths at the exhibit hall. This year’s opening keynote speaker was Bill Rancic. Bill Rancic burst onto the national scene when he was hired by Donald Trump after winning the first season of NBC’s breakthrough program The Apprentice. On August 12th, ECOM enjoyed their annual swim party at the Schlenker’s house. There was lots of fun and food for everyone. This year’s party was a BBQ blow out with hot dogs and hamburgers with all of the fixings! The Schlenker’s did not disappoint, they had many wonderful side dishes, too many to count, that complemented the meal. The annual ECOM Corn Hole Tournament continued strong this year. Each round there is an elimination until one person is left standing. The lucky winner was Bryce Smith (right) who had to take out last years winner Ben Schlenker (left) and the President to take home this year’s prestigious trophy. Congratulations Bryce!

ECOM Engineering would like to congratulate Ben Schlenker for getting his California Professional Engineering license in Electrical Engineering. To become a Professional Electrical Engineer there are a few steps you need to take Step 1: Earn a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering:... Then take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Engineering graduates are eligible to take the first exam required to become licensed engineers. Those who pass this exam become known as engineer interns or engineers in training (EITs) and can start gaining the experience needed to take the second exam. Step 2: Gain Experience Entry-level positions typically include working under the supervision of an experienced engineer as well as on-the-job and in-class training. New hires may assist with collecting data on electrical system requirements, determining the efficiency of power generators and conducting field surveys to identify power system problems. Gaining experience can lead to mid-level engineering jobs and help an engineer get closer to obtaining an engineering license. Step 3: Get an Engineering License EITs with four years of work experience are eligible to take the second part of the licensing exam. EITs who successfully complete the exam become licensed PEs. Congratulations Ben!

On Sunday, April 16, 2017 our Accounting Manager, Alannah Robinson and her son Foxx went fishing at Pardee Reservoir with Eric Johnson. It was a cloudy day but it turned out to be a very successful trip. This was not just a boat ride, as you can see by the pictures below. They caught (2) Rainbow trout that stretched approximately a foot long and this is no fish story. They did mention that they hooked a big fish but he got away, this is their story and they are sticking with it!

On October 7, 2016 ECOM enjoyed an afternoon at TOPGOLF in Roseville, California. Anyone can play Topgolf, from aspiring pros to those who’ve never walked 18 holes. All you have to do is swing a club and try to hit your microchipped balls into dartboard-like targets. They provided a buffet as well as unlimited soft drinks during our event which made it a nice afternoon of golf. We played (3) games and winners were the following: 1. Mark Schlenker TOPGOLF 196 pts. (HIGHEST... SCORE* = 400 AVG SCORE = 95) Players score points by hitting balls into any target. The more accurate your shot and the farther the distance, the more points you earn. 2. Mark Schlenker TOPSCORE 304 pts. (HIGHEST SCORE* = 1500 AVG SCORE = 209) This high-scoring version of Topgolf rewards you for going big. The farther the target you hit and the closer you get to the center flag, the higher the multiple of points you’ll receive. 3. Curtis Costella TOPSHOT 85 pts (HIGHEST SCORE* = 220 AVG SCORE = 84) This game challenges you to hit the targets at four consecutive distances (five shots each). The starting target you choose (red, yellow or green) determines the game’s level of difficulty. Accuracy is key in this exciting game. See more
