Kevin and I had the good fortune to spend time in #northerncalifornia with Graeme Hand doing Landscape Function Analysis, #landscapefunctionanalysis, for @rumianocheese #dairy producers. This was part of an educational approach for dairy producers who are currently #regenerativegrazing their lands, to increase their land quality, continue to improve the health of their #cows, as well as increase the #farms profitability.

For all that are interested in learning how ruminants can be added into a regenerative vineyard, farm or orchard management plan, here’s the daylong event for you. An introduction to targeted grazing as an ecological and economical approach to vege...tation management in the vineyard Presented by Grazing School of the West, Ovines in the Vines is an intensive field day for vineyard managers to introduce the use of grazing sheep as an ecological approach to managing vegetation in the season between harvest and budbreak, as well as an introduction for grazing beyond budbreak. Learn the benefits, economics, and technical details from industry leaders. We will cover the why, how, challenges/opportunities, ecological benefits, cost considerations, best practices, and general how-to for developing a grazing program or hiring a contracted grazer. We will observe an active grazing project in the vineyards program at Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles, CA and offer on the ground insights about equipment modification and specific infrastructure (fixed and mobile) systems for fencing, water, transport, herd management, and perennial crop protection. Join us after the field day for a lamb roast dinner to further engage with other vineyard managers and representatives, grazing operators, and land stewardship industry members. This field day is a beginner-level all-day intensive workshop geared towards prospective vineyard/orchard managers interested in learning about integrating livestock into their management systems. A circumferential look at our current #agroforestry project in De Luz. This is a multiple species #orchard with a variety of #waterharvesting elements laid out on contour. We are experimenting with some of the #treecrops by creating #overstory coverage and maximizing the natural #microclimates of the site. The project includes a #soilhealth plan and an #ecologicalsuccession planting plan of #californianativeplants.

#zerowaste as practiced by #nature. I can taste the neutrality of it all.

The thing that I find most astounding on a daily basis in working within #agroforestrysystems is the diversity of #wildlife that presents itself. The development of #habitat is a hallmark for #regenerativeagriculture, and stands in such stark contrast to modern conventional #agriculture. Onward and hopefully upward...

Design informs our installations and installations inform our design. Our hands-on, boots-in-the-dirt team of professional landscapers help push our design team every day. We get to put into practice what is dreamt up on paper and we constantly are seeking to improve and innovate with our landscape installations.

The #alleycropping in the @coastalrootsfarm #silvopasture system has taken another step forward this week as we have activated the fourth alley by #covercropping for #soil development, #animalfodder and #plant pest management. Additionally all of the #gardenbeds have moved into production within alley 1. We hope to see #agroforestry and #agroforestrysystems become more prevalent in Southern California, thus establishing #farming in our region that is focused on #soilhealth, #climatecrisis, #carbonsequestration, #animalwellness and #humanhealth to help mitigate the regressive practices of large scale, commercial agriculture.
