As the mom of young children myself, this hit home. So I'd like to share the gofundme link in case any of our customers would like to help this local family. Many of you likely heard about the terrible accident at Slide Hill Park a couple of days ago. This is the family. As a note, I'd like to add that even though it's over it's "goal" this family needs all the blessings they can muster. So please don't let that stop any generosity. https://gofund.me/57eb6c1b

Closed today due to power outage. We will announce and re-open for delivery and or takeout asap. Watch our Facebook and or Instagram for updates! Oh and we are sad too, 'cause the outdoor tent got wrecked. So we are gonna have to buy yet another one to setup - so that sucks! No seriously though... we are #grateful no damage to Zuma and no damage for neighbors on our block. Sending positive vibes for our customers safety. Hope you are all okay!!!!!!!

You would not believe how often we have heard this story since covid shut everything down. A new entrepreneur who has dreamed of owning a restaurant finally gets their shot...in February of 2020. And then came March. And then came the year that followed. Restaurants have an 80% fail rate on a good day. But these are not good days. So I want to tell you all about Tapa the World in Sacramento. Dustin and I had our first date there, and so did the new owners, who purchased it in... February of last year. The have wonderful Spanish food and the best sangria of all time. It is utterly charming and worth the drive. But this place is special to me for another reason. They were the first non-chain restaurant I really ate at. Up until that point 99% of my dining experiences were at places that I already knew what I was going to order before I ever walked in the door. Corporate, souless, big-box places. How-many-pieces-of-flair-are-you-wearing type places. And here was Tapa the World with changing daily specials and scratch made food. You could actually watch them cook in an open kitchen before that was ever "a thing." And below is my favorite dish (gambas), which is a sinful dish of butter, wine, garlic and shrimp. They have been top of mind for me since covid because I really really want them to make it.

We are fishing for some inspiration and ideas for what to call our mobile food group. It's confusing to flood our poke-centric restaurant social media feeds with burgers, avocado toast, hot dogs, one-off southern alligator burger popups, and of course coconuts amongst other themes. But we would love your opinion!!! Any good names you would like to share? Winner with our new name or the person who inspires the new name gets a free GIFT CARD to our restaurants and or mobile food stands. How big of a gift card depends on how good the name is ;) Some things we like to use in the name or in conjunction with the name are: Pop Up Restaurant, Mobile Food, Catering

This marquee sign struck a dissonant note in my heart because we are very lucky to live and work in Davis, and what makes us a community is under threat. As businesses falter and fail, its not just jobs that are lost. Its culture and connectedness. Crime rises with more and more vacant signs. Property values drop. People move out. We've seen it historically in once-great cities like Detroit and I've watched it in the small rural towns in Georgia where my family is from. It may not seem like it, but the business community is the beating heart of this city and we need your support to survive. Not just for us, but for you too. We have to fight to keep what makes Davis special because you really don't know what you had till its gone.

We could tell you all about the wonderful avocado toast we are selling at two markets in San Francisco and San Rafel today, but I'd rather use our limited resources to talk about Alchemy Farms. They sell us our micro greens, and they need your help. They had over a hundred restaurant clients around SF that they serviced. They are now down to 10 and treading water. They have a great product and are very nice people. So if you are in the area, please please please stop by and get some greens. You see, it is a ripple effect. As restaurants go out, their vendors go out too. Farmers lose their livelihoods. Employees lose their jobs. Fields go fallow. We all need help right now. So if you're able, please shop as local as you can.

We were very sad to hear of Taste of Thai closing today. It is hard to watch our neighbors go out of business one by one.

[7 Days of Hope - last day] I hope 2021 is a little better than 2020 In March of this year, I had big plans. We were supposed to expand into 9 farmers markets a week and had scheduled to attend a major festival each month. Dustin had already booked dozens of coconut gigs and had decided to pursue coconut shucking full time. We even were going to open a second business in Sacramento. ... It was going to be a great year. But then it wasnt. I had hired a team to handle all the new events, who I had to let go. Then I had to let go my entire Zuma staff. Dustin became our delivery driver and I was our only poke bowl maker. We lived off of tips and went back to 14 hour shifts 7 days a week. It was scary. We had to let go of the new project, which was heartbreaking. And we never saw our kid's, which was worse. But we were grateful to make it, when so many others weren't. And slowly but surely it picked up enough to start hiring back our team. And as of today we have been able to get them all back. That feels good. So thank you. Thank you for showing up and caring about a small poke shop when you really didn't have to. Thank you for cheering us up and crying with us. Thank you for wishing us well. Thank you for bearing with us when we had to close early because we were just too exhausted. Thank you for your tips, its how we kept a roof over our head and fed our children. You have been our silver lining in an otherwise unbearable year. Love Dustin, Rachael, Coral & Freya
