Parents are often told that they have to have a dental home for their child. But what exactly is a dental home? . According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a dental home is a location that allows for a long term relationship between the dentist and the patient . As pediatric dentists, we LOVE seeing our child patients grow up over time. This also allows us to really get to know your child and your family, so that we can help make recommendations for your c...hild's oral health that work specifically for your family circumstance! . By having a single location that your child continues to come back to for their dental care, your child also becomes more comfortable with going to the dentist! . At East Valley Children's Dentistry, we really want all of our patients to feel at home and to feel that they are a part of our family. Drs. Norman and Cat strive to treat every child as if they were their own! . Don’t forget to bring your child to the dentist for their first visit no later than their first birthday!! #firstdentalvisit See more

You may not know, but dentists can have a sweet tooth too! We love sweets just as much as you do, so with Halloween coming up, we wanted to give you tips on how to continue to take care of your teeth during this sugary holiday! . Candy that are "tooth-friendly" are candy that quickly leave the mouth and are not sticky! Chocolate is the best "tooth-friendly" type of sweet! It enters the mouth and leaves the teeth really fast as it melts away . Candy that are not as "toot...h-friendly" are candy that are sticky. These types of candy stay in the mouth for a long time! They stick really tight to the chewing surfaces of teeth and can potentially cause cavities. We want to avoid too much of gummy bears, gummy worms, taffy, and caramels . The most important thing is to eat sweets in moderation. Keep your child's candy in a place that is not visible. Having candy out in the open and easily accessible will increase the amount of times your child will want to have that candy. Also, give candy as a special treat, not as a type of food they eat on a daily basis . And of course, don't forget to brush your child's teeth! Remember to brush two times a day, two minutes each time. . We hope everyone has a safe and healthy Halloween, and keep your teeth shiny and clean! What's your plan for Halloween this year? We would love to hear your plans! . Read more detailed information on our blog! (website link in bio)! See more

We really know what it means when they say it takes a village! Without all of these people in our team, we would not be able to create our dream dental office. . These photos were from our team walk-through, going over plans between our different departments - construction, design, and equipment. You see how we were drawing out where our dental chairs would go? Not only do we have to worry about placement but where all of the pipes will go to connect to the chairs! With social distancing guidelines, it's important for us to make sure all of the chairs are 6 feet apart! It really takes a lot of coordination and planning to make sure everything goes according to plan. And we are so thankful for all of their help! . Continue to follow along as we share more updates of our office coming together #dentalofficedesign

With sports resuming, we wanted to turn our attention to a topic that's not discussed as often - Mouthguards! Did you know that dental injury is most common in sports such as baseball and basketball? These higher collision and contact sports increase the risk for dental injury! . Mouthguards are also known as mouth protectors because they help cushion any injury to the face - especially your front teeth, lips, tongue, and jaw! . There are 3 types of mouthguards:... 1Custom - this is the best type! It is custom made by a dentist for your child and fits perfectly in your child's mouth! 2Boil-and-bite - by softening the material in hot water, the mouthguard may be molded to your child's mouth 3Stock - most inexpensive but doesn't fit very well, may be more bulky, making breathing and talking difficult for your child . Working with your dentist to develop the best plan for your child while they play sports will help protect their beautiful smiles! . . Does your child currently wear a mouthguard when they are playing sports? Let us know your experiences! . Read more detailed information on our blog! (see website link) See more

Did you know that it is recommended for parents to help their children brush their teeth until their child is at least 7-8 years old? You may say "Wow! We still need to help them even when they are that old?" What matters the most is what to look for as you're helping your child brush in order to help guide them towards better brushing on their own. . Here are our tips to help you brush with your child: . Each tooth has 3 "sides" that need to be brushed: the cheek side, the... tongue side, and the biting surface. Look at the area where the gums touch the tooth for white/yellow material called plaque! Plaque likes to stick the most to the cheek sides of the upper teeth and the tongue sides of the lower teeth. With the cheeks and tongue squishing against those sides of the teeth, it's hard for your child to brush there, so spend extra time checking these spots! Divide the mouth into 4 different sections - upper right, upper left, lower left, lower right. Spend 30 seconds brushing each section, which will equal a total of 2 minutes of brushing! Don't forget to brush the tongue! If the tongue remains white and coated over time, this can be a cause of stinky breath! . As a rule of thumb, children are usually able to brush their teeth on their own once they know how to tie their own shoelaces. This demonstrates that they have enough hand motor skills in order to brush their teeth effectively! . They can brush on their own first, then you as the parent can check their brushing and help remind them of any places they have missed. Then before you know it, they'll be able to brush super well on their own! . We hope these tips help you and your child become a better brushing team together! Read our blog for more detailed information. . . . Do you have any tips on how brushing works best for you? We would love to hear from you! See more

We're back again to share with you our journey towards opening our office. With the current circumstances, we have been greatly delayed in opening and being able to see all of your wonderful smiles in our office. But we are working hard, staying positive, and looking forward to the day we can open our doors! . Designing our office has been so much fun! We get to put our personalities into the design and create a home away from home for our future patients. Not only do we ge...t to decide between fun designs and colors, we wanted to use materials that are environmentally friendly! We are using 100% recycled teak (a reclaimed wood) for our paneling, providing a spectrum of color, grain, and historic character. Also, our open bay wall panels are made with a lightweight foam core that is plant oil-based, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. We want to do our part in keeping things green! . As you can see from our photos, we had a lot to choose from! We can't wait until the day we can show everyone how it all comes together! #dentalofficedesign . . What would you choose if you were us? With the pandemic still on our minds, it's really important to not only keep up good hand hygiene but good oral hygiene as well! Did you know that a single toothbrush can hold as many 1.2 million bacteria? That's a lot! . So how do you take care of your toothbrush and how often do you need to change them out? These are great questions! A healthy and clean toothbrush means a healthy child! . How can you take care of your child's toothbrush? ... - After using the toothbrush, shake it vigorously under tap water and store it in an upright position so that it can air out - Make sure the toothbrush dries between uses . How often should you change your child's toothbrush? 1) It is recommended to change your toothbrush every 3 months 2) Studies have shown that after 3 months of normal wear and tear, the toothbrush becomes less effective at removing plaque from your child's teeth! . And super important! - if your child has had a cold, flu, mouth infection, or sore throat - change out the toothbrush! Germs can hide in the bristles and cause reinfection. We don't want your child to get sick again! . Keeping up the good habit of changing out your toothbrush often will not only keep your child's smile clean and bright, but also keeps your child healthy! . Visit our website blog (link in bio) for more tips & information! We hope everyone continues to stay well and healthy! See more

Why Burbank? We have so many people ask us why did we choose to live here? Why did we decide to open our office here? . Burbank has so much to offer - food, arts, nature. But best of all, there is a genuine and strong sense of community. We love how nice everyone is and how family friendly the city is. You can really feel the strength of the community. When we first moved to Burbank, we felt welcome and safe. We also love that we can walk anywhere to enjoy what Burbank has to... offer. Seeing how strong a community Burbank is and how everyone is supportive of each other, we wanted to be a part of that support system. At East Valley Children’s Dentistry, we want everyone to feel included and be a part of our family . We are thrilled to call Burbank our home and are excited to serve this community. .
