Marcia Wood Gallery Atlanta, GA, USA Online viewing room: BETWEEN OBJECT AND IMAGE... MARCH 17 - MAY 15, 2021 curated by Andrea Clark BETWEEN OBJECT AND IMAGE showcases work where there is a prevalent shifting between two and three dimensionality such as applying sculptural ideas and materials to the wall or erecting a two dimensional plane into three dimensions. This exhibition finds and examines the connections between the work of five artists: Ann Agee, Andrea Clark, Michelle Carla Handel, Sacha Ingber, and Mariana Garibay Raeke. This exhibition also acknowledges the deluge of digital representation of art over the past 10-15 years, and which we have experienced almost exclusively in this past year of the pandemic. As we swipe through these works on our laptops and handheld devices we experience a constant teetering between the images on our screens and how the works creep toward and engage with two dimensionality. Ultimately the work buzzes within this liminal space. #marciawoodgallery #onlineviewingroom #atlanta #georgia #curatedby #andreaclark #groupexhibition #annagee #michellecarlahandel #sachaingber #marinagaribayraeke #betweenobjectandimage

Booth 36 (Jason Ramos) Gabby Gonzales Coffee Kang Michelle Carla Handel Jason Ramos Any Way, Shape, or Form describes ways in which bodies, behaviors, and identities contort themselves in response to our current culture. Works by the artist-directors and community artists in residence at Eastside International (ESXLA) address issues of immigration, gender identity and the body, human vice, violence and masculinity, and slippery areas of belief and perception. Paintings by Gabby Gonzales include meticulous still lives comprised of symbols of excess beer cans, cigarettes, bongs, and pills creating contemporary vanitas arrangements of love, sex and death. Michelle Carla Handel’s disembodied sculptural works extend the logic of the body as object and objects as images to their unexpected conclusion. Bodily evocations are taken apart, reflected back and merged with more utilitarian forms, while disguised materials offer a push and pull of perceptual confusion. Coffee Kang’s practice highlights the absurdity of the United States’ immigration policy towards artists. The implication of draconian US visa requirements are unpacked with performance-based works such as Under the Table and O-1 Paintings. And the finishing move is applied by Jason Ramos, whose paintings are inspired by the most excessive and ridiculous form of entertainment there is, professional wrestling. A fictional narrative of competition and violence, role playing and posturing, it speaks directly to the absurd theater of our current political moment. Gabby Gonzales: Lifting the Veil online exhibition @eastsideinternational Sept 12 - Oct 10 2020 In the late hours of the night, when family and friends are asleep and social media news feeds are quiet for the night, you are left with just yourself. What truths of the individual are revealed when all the noise and input from the world has fallen away? What comes to the forefront when released from the burdens of saving face? What lies just beyond the veil of socially acce...ptable day to day life? Contemporary signifiers of quotidian vice occupy the scenes and mind of Gabby Gonzales. In works caught between still-life and fantasy, Gonzales filters modern temptations through classical and queer lenses. Sex, drugs and parking tickets are rendered in a clean, linear style reminiscent of ancient Greek pottery painting, similarly providing insight to the culture and environment of her time. Each work is a meticulous odyssey of love and death, navigating through bongs, beers and breasts towards an isle of survival. @modal_realism #esxla #onlineexhibition #gabbygonzales #soloexhibition #liftingtheveil #drawing #painting #contemporaryart #losangeles #art See more
