So good to see snow in the Owens Valley! Some of the #dogsofESLT are certainly having a blast in all this powder. Play safe out there, and take a cue from the pups - find the joy in the simple moments!

"Only when it's dark enough can you see the stars." - Martin Luther King Jr. On this day commemorating the life of Martin Luther King Jr., we reflect on Dr. King’s unyielding belief in peaceful protest and how he remained unshakably committed to nonviolence in the face of an increasingly unstable country. There are many ways to honor his legacy today, from documentaries that cast a light on his fight for civil rights for all, to volunteering, to virtual tours of historic places. How will you be seeking for those stars and commemorating the day? Share in the comments!

Who’s been humming around town this winter? In the northern Owens Valley, a few species of hummingbirds typically overwinter. These are usually Anna’s Hummingbirds, although we occasionally get Costa’s. Have you seen them? For questions on feeders and plants to attract hummingbirds in your yard, fly on over to the blog post: https://www.eslt.org/2017/03/06/hummingbirds/... Photo: Dan Streiffert

Fresh snow in the mountains this morning, with more on the way! Hoping for more of this much needed precipitation for the Eastern Sierra, where we're reporting under 50% of average snowpack. Let it snow! Photo: ESLT Philanthropy Manager, Heather Freeman

We’re looking forward to discussing The Hidden Life of Trees this evening! Author, Peter Wohlleben, writes about trees almost like they are humans. Part of our conversation will cover his anthropomorphization of trees - how you feel about viewing trees so similar to us, and if this affects our caring for the wellbeing of trees. If you haven’t RSVP'd to receive the zoom link, please email Gabrielle at [email protected].

Did you know that by supporting ESLT, you have a direct positive impact on all of the Eastern Sierra’s iconic wildlife? That’s exactly why ESLT was founded: to enable caring people like you to protect land in this region for people and wildlife, forever. On our blog, you can read about all the ways that supporters like you protect mule deer, pronghorn, sage-grouse, and many more. (link in comments). Pronghorn herd in winter photo by Sean Beckett

Do you know the Top #3 Reasons to Give to ESLT? Which one is your favorite? I think you can guess ours... ;) What does supporting Eastern Sierra Land Trust look like? It means protecting special land in the Eastern Sierra like the Hunewill Ranch, forever. These are places where people find peace, hope, and harmony, and that mule deer, Bi-State sage-grouse, American badger, and more rely on for food, homes, and migration pathways. We have more critical places like Hunewill Ran...ch in our protection queue right now, and your gifts will help save them. If you enjoy the Eastern Sierra wide-open places, scenic views, and homes for wildlife, donate today. ESLT is supported by tax-deductible donations, and every dollar goes to saving more of our amazing Eastern Sierra lands for future generations to experience them as we do today. Thank you for caring! Thanks to YOU! Our caring community of conservation supporters raised over $50,000 this #GivingTuesday, going directly to protecting our amazing Eastern Sierra land. And a special thanks to our longtime, generous donor who matched what you raised. What a boost for saving the land and wildlife you love! A gift to ESLT is a gift that creates hope, today and forever. https://www.eslt.org/donate/ In the Eastern Sierra, we find peace in the glow of the mountains at sunrise. We find harmony in the natural seasonal patterns like the mule deer migration, spring birds, and winter snow.... You're the one protecting this incredible place for the future. As 2020 comes to a close, please consider giving a gift of the Eastern Sierra, protected forever, for future generations. Thank you for caring! Photo by Johnny Adolphson.
