Ok people of greater Bixby Knolls area, it is time to circle the wagons and get vocal about the dangerous drag racing up and down Atlantic Ave, endangering our community. A few weeks ago I was sitting outside at Willmore Wine Bar and witnessed a car speeding then crashing in to a minivan and flipping through the air landing upside down. It then slid for 400 feet with debris flying everywhere. If there would have been people walking down the street or even sitting at an o...utdoor dinning area they would have been seriously hurt. One week after that I was at Wood and Salt and witnessed 3 cars driving so fast they blew through the red light one after another at Burlinghall and Atlantic Ave. We have been lucky so far but we can’t wait for someone to get seriously hurt before we speak up as a community. I have been very vocal with 8th district council member Al Austin about turning up the heat on this issue. He definitely agrees something needs to be done. Al has been working hard for this. There apparently are people who are against slowing Atlantic Ave. down for whatever reason, I’m not sure why. This is a safety issue more than anything else! As we all know this city is slow to help Bixby Knolls, so we need to help however we can. If you are in agreement to get the speeds reduced throughout the district, please plan on attending the community meeting tomorrow night. We will to discuss a pilot program that would be a first step to address this issue.
