A refrigerated cooler, chilled to 37 degrees, was parked out back for coronavirus victims, in case the death toll exceeded what the mortuary could handle. For now, it held one woman a patient from a skilled nursing home in Hayward who had succumbed to the virus. But most of the funerals still centered on those who had died of more familiar causes." https://www.sfchronicle.com//The-deadly-spread-of-the-coro

Remembering Memorial Day began informally as decoration of graves day during the War of the Rebellion aka Civil War and all the young Americans who fought to save the Union and free the unfree. Hundreds of thousands of families never heard what happened to their sons, fathers and husbands. My great great grandfather, who fought in the XXVIII Corps with the US Colored troops and was wounded and discharged for his injury which affected him for the rest of his life capturing Fort Harrison from the rebels on a day when 14 USCT earned the Medal of Honor. Survivors spend hours gathering, collaborating, discussing, writing and editing the obituary. Writing what is important to you will guide your survivors and save them precious time. The elements of a newspaper notice include who you are, your relatives, where you worked and what organizations would people know you from. Leave the service information to your funeral director to write for you. One last bit of advice, the purpose of a newspaper notice is to notify people of your passing. Newspapers are no longer a bargain, so I recommend you save your life story to be read at the service where the group sharing is so much more rewarding.
