When you’re too excited to show off your smile One of Dr. Fishman’s primary goals is getting little ones to feel confident about themselves through their smile. We love seeing them walk out of the office with big smiles like this Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday and scoring some Girl Scout Cookies while you’re at it ! #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts

We wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Dr. Gibson! Dr. Gibson has recently become a Board Certified orthodontist! What does this mean? Let's take a look at first at what it takes to become an orthodontist in itself! According to the ABO (American Board of Orthodontics) an orthodontist is a dentist who has not only completed a graduate program in dentistry to receive their DDS or DMD (Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine), but has also gone thr...ough a competitive residency at a CODA-accredited orthodontic program for an additional 2-3 years to be trained specifically in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Now, an ABO Board Certification is a voluntary credential that represents an orthodontist’s personal and public commitment to the standards of specialty practice and lifelong learning. The ABO Certification process requires the completion of peer-developed, externally validated written and clinical examinations. A Board Certified Orthodontist has reached this level of achievement by pursuing additional voluntary education and ongoing self- assessment. Board Certification is confirmation of an orthodontist’s personal commitment to providing lifelong quality patient care. The American Board of Orthodontics is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. We are so proud of Dr. Gibson and his unwavering commitment to better himself and by doing so, his colleagues around him. We are so very fortunate to have him on the team! Congrats! #pediatricdentalarts #followthesmilingfish

These words mean SO much to us. Next to making your little one feel comfortable, it is another priority of ours that YOU feel comfortable to take the time to ask the questions. We pride ourselves on the number of good relationships built - not the number of patients that come through the door. And we are so happy you can feel that! Thank you again for the kind reviews! Happy Monday PDA fam! #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts

Does your child grind his or her teeth at night? This is also known as "Bruxism" and if you or your child have experienced this, it is not fun. Bruxism can be caused by a large range of psychological, physiological and physical factors such as tress, jaw misalignment (bad bite), stress and others. Some children are silent grinders and you may not be able to hear it at night, but here are signs to look for:... Frequent complaints of headache Injured teeth and gums Loud grinding or clicking sounds during the day Rhythmic tightening or clenching of the jaw muscles Unusual complaints about painful jaw muscles especially in the morning Unusual tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods For most children, "Bruxing" will stop around the age of 13. In the meantime, pediatric dentists are able to monitor its effect on your child's teeth and provide some much needed relief or an interventional strategy. This could look like providing a path to aligning your child's bite or, if stress-driven, the pediatric dentist may recommend relaxation classes, professional therapy or special exercises. In some cases, a nighttime mouth guard may be needed. If you believe your child may be grinding his or her teeth at night, give us a call at 562-927-6453 and we'd be happy to assess your child's teeth for better sleep and a happier child! #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts

While Boss's day was on Friday, we wanted to share a few words with you today from an interview with Dr. Gibson that also highlights our wonderful boss! "I think Dr. Fishman is very good at making people feel comfortable with their dental work in a nice warm environment. He sees a lot of patients that a lot of dentists can't see, because they have anxiety, they have developmental disabilities. He's the perfect personality for kids' dentist. He takes into consideration the emo...tional wellbeing of the kids, so that they're feel good about themselves, feel good about the office, and as a result, take care of their teeth and have a healthy mouth. Aside from being there for your children, we are also so thankful for the positive environment and team he has established among the Pediatric Dental Arts practice that truly feels like family! A big thank you to all that you do Dr. Fishman! Comment below with any of your notes for Dr. Fishman! #BossesDay #PediatricDentalArts #FollowtheSmilingFish

Pediatric Dental Arts 12.08.2020

Happy Thursday! Which is basically Friday, right? Today we wanted to share something that makes Pediatric Dental Arts so unique. It's the long-standing camaraderie between these two -- 25 years and counting! The greatest marriage in dentistry, in my opinion, is that of a pediatric dentist and an orthodontist because what they have in common is that they both have knowledge of growth and development, says Dr. Fishman. ... When you have a pediatric dentist that knows growth and development and is able to prepare the child for future orthodontics by intercepting an issue that could become complex -- and because of the knowledge of growth and development, we can minimize that by making room and then getting the child ready for orthodontics. This allows us to get a favorable result at a very young age. My goal is to have children walk around with a nice smile, not when they're 12 years old, but at seven years old. And Dr. Gibson as an orthodontist, takes care of those kids who may need help a little early. Not every child needs it, but some kids do. And if you address it early, you can make it a very pleasant experience for a child going through those years when they're developing their confidence in their smile. Having these two under one roof allow for a complete dental care journey! #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts

Join us in wishing Darlina a happy, happy birthday! Darlina is one of our fabulous Dental Assistants and has been with Pediatric Dental Arts for 5 years!! She got into dentistry by following in her mother's footsteps. Her favorite part about working at PDA is interacting with patients and the music they play! Fun-fact: Darlina has attended TWO World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers ... Thank you Darlina for all that you do! We are so blessed to have you as part of the #PDAFamily and wish you an amazing birthday today! #whoispediatricdentalarts #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts

Ouch - these are no fun. To help temporarily relieve your child of any discomfort: First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Next, give the child acetaminophen (a.k.a., Children's Tylenol) for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Lastly, come see us as soon as possible!... More questions about your child's dental care? Send us a message here or give us a call at 562-927-6453 #followthesmilingfish #pediatricdentalarts
