This pup helped me do a GI study all on his own after chomping an IPhone charging cable like spaghetti. First X-ray is on presentation, second is after induced ...vomiting, a second dose of vomiting medication was given but he wouldn’t give up the last bit,so we decided to give him a day and see if the rest would pass. Third image is next day when all of it had moved into the colon, once in the colon we are in the clear. Pup made a full recovery! @drsamvaron #dog #vet #vetmedicine #vomit #nosurgeryneeded #gistudy See more

Sometimes we can’t help but love on our patients

Broadway Veterinary Hospital 21.02.2021

The UC Davis Veterinary School Class of 2017 lost a member to suicide last week, statistically speaking he is unlikely to be the last as veterinarians are 3.5x ...more likely to commit suicide than the general population. Few careers tell you as much about a persons soul as veterinary medicine - that a person is loving, caring, empathetic, dedicated, trustworthy, and kind. It creates a calling in your soul to do good, to care for those who can’t speak and can’t care for themselves. Speak to anyone for just a few moments and you’d know that Dr. Maynard was an example of the best of what human kind has to offer this world. There is something so dark and cruel and terrifying about a world in which some of the most compassionate among us no longer feel worthy to walk among the living. So this is my plea - Do better, be a better, kinder human. Stop any sort of negative interaction that you have toward anyone you’ve met or haven’t personally met on social media. Speak to every human you meet with compassion and respect. It’s okay to be frustrated that you got poor service or that your order was wrong, it’s okay to ask a person to correct a mistake they have made. It is not okay to target them on social media, yell, call them names or bully. And the next time you end up at the vet, I ask that you do this for me, sincerely thank your vet and their staff for caring for your pet and remind them that the world is a better place for having them in it. Vet med is amazingly rewarding, but has definitely been very stressful over the last year. Through all the emergencies, surgeries, and challenging appointments,... it’s nice to sometimes just snuggle a cute puppy and smile for a moment. @broadway_veterinary_hospital @drsamvaron #goldenretriever #puppy #cute #rewarding #veterinariansofinstagram See more

you look like a mosaic so beautifully fractured like all of your pieces were not meant to fit.... and when you told me i should run away from someone like you, i reached out with every part of me- my eyes. these arms. this heart. and isn’t it beautiful the way we fit together? you needed somewhere to land and i needed someone to hold. -wilder poetry Metamorphosis He once had a family who no longer wanted him. They would leave him outside. He would keep going back to the house and beg for food. The people would throw hot water on him. Finally, he got the hint. It was said he would roam the streets of Tijuana for a while. He would dig in between cracks and wherever to find whatever morsels of food he could. Like so many of the street dogs of Tijuana, he would live on the streets for a while. That is until one day an Angel would find and save him. We don’t know everything about him. His scars hold his deepest darkest secrets. His spine was damaged from either being beaten or hit by a car. Probably, both. His skin was a mess and to this day is still in recovery. He is on pain meds for his arthritis. He had to be treated for TVT, a genital cancer that runs ramped on the streets of TJ. Lastly, his one eye he could not see out of. We don’t know a lot about him. What we do know is he loves peanut butter and treats. Dislikes eating veggies plain. His favorite color is blue. Loves to cuddle but also loves his personal space. He loves toys and to play. He hates being really hot but loves to sun bath. Mister Rogers is one of the sweetest dogs and it’s hard to believe he’s known anything other than kindness. Every now and then I see traces of his former life. A few weeks ago I caught him in the back yard trying to get a tiny piece of food in between a crack. I looked at him and he looked at me with that sad eye. It really broke my heart. He has gotten better at baths but still runs when I turn the hose on in the yard. It’s little things that remind me. Today we CELEBRATE this dog Mister Rogers. It’s hard to honor him without acknowledging all the people who made having him in our life possible. First and foremost, to my good friend Piper of Hand and Paw who chose this dog for us. To her partner Bridget who fostered him while being treated for TVT. To Elaine of Atchoo foundation who worked with the rescuers and doctors in Tijuana to get him healthy enough to come to the states. Thank you to Doctor Z who works with Hand in Paw. To our doctors at Broadway Veterinary, Dr. Sam & Dr. Tyler, who are his primary doctors. Last but not least to Hilda, who is an incredible dog rescuer in Tijuana. Please excuse the typos. Every time I try to share his story or think of where he came from it’s so hard. This case is one of the hardest that shows the worst and also the best in humanity. So incredibly heartbreaking but also inspiring and moving. It’s hard to think we only had him for a year, but a lot can happen in just a year! *If you would like to honor & celebrate Mister Rogers, in addition to helping more dogs from Tijuana get off the streets and into a home, please consider donating. https://www.facebook.com/donate/372911887144872/?fundraiser_source=external_url Before and after #gotchaday #rescuestrong #olddogsrule

Update on Marshmallow Her surgery went well yesterday and she’s home healing up!! Even after everything she’s been through she is still the sweetest little gre...mlin. Especially in her cute Christmas sweater! She had her prolapse rectum and umbilical hernia fixed. They even found steel sutures inside of her from her past c-section that was never taken out. Lots of meds, special food, and healing time now. Poor baby. Someone bred her, someone didn’t treat her well, someone disposed her like garbage, someone turned their back on her. That someone is just a past memory now and they will never be in her life again. She has us now and we will always have her back! I didn’t expect on taking in another medical case right now, but she needed us. Thanks to everyone’s generous donations we were able to cover Marshmallows huge surgery bill yesterday!! You guys are seriously awesome and I am beyond thankful!! Your support and love for our rescue dogs means so much. We still need to pay off our other balances and take care of vet bills coming up so every donation is a big help during these hard times. I also want to send a huge thank you to Broadway Veterinary Hospital for getting her in right away for surgery and taking such good care of our girl! We are looking forward to working with you guys more! Be ready for lots of hippos coming your way! Now we are going to enjoy our Sunday cuddling with the dogs and relaxing. I will post more updates later!

Alright guys we need all your prayers for Marshmallow I dropped her off this morning for her emergency surgery and I am a worried momma bear!! I just got th...e call from the vet and she’s a medical mess!! This is why people need to stop breeding these dogs for looks. They are a genetic and inbred mess which is why they have so many medical issues. They will be fixing her rectal prolapse (graphic pic in comments) and she also has a umbilical hernia that needs to be repaired as well. Her scar is actually a c-section scar so of course she’s been bred. The worse is that she has a horrible heart murmur around stage 4 which is very dangerous when going under anesthesia. The vet is very worried about such a young dog having a bad murmur so they are doing a EKG and sending it out to a cardiologist. Her fecal test came back as a bad bacterial infection so they are putting her on strong iv antibiotics and anti inflammatory to help. All I can say is I’m so thankful we were able to rescue her just in time. A big F U to her previous owners who didn’t give a shit and had her outside in the freezing cold for animal control to pick her up as a stray. We don’t know nothing about her past but it’s only going to get better! Please pray for our girl and send lots of love for her. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and please keep donating for Marshmallows care. We can use all the help. Her bill today will be around 2k and she will need follow ups. I will post vet bills and a update once she’s out of surgery. We are all here for you sweet girl!! https://linktr.ee/Simbaspawdogrescue

Rant/ Update: I have been sitting with this for weeks. When I last dropped my dog off to have his eye surgery, I thought for shits and giggles I would read the... reviews about my Veterinary hospital. I guess I was looking to read some uplifting posts, while anxiously waiting for my pup. What a mistake. I forgot how cruel, judgemental and ungrateful people can be at times. It hurts my heart knowing the reviews that are out there about my Doctors and their staff. Reading some of them, I was appalled and angered about the things being said, knowing that my experiences have been nothing but amazing. Knowing that I talk to both doctors almost everyday . Granted, that probably isn’t typical, but neither are they. I’ve actually witnessed first hand how terrible and privileged people can be towards them. It truly hurts my heart that people are so quick to write such hurtful/ hateful things and not think twice about. It’s as if people get off by leaving bad reviews or not tipping well. People don’t know how to communicate, and the world could really use more conversations and compassion. Not for anything but my doctor has gone to school for over a decade. He loves what he does and is passionate about helping animals. He tries so hard to work with people and have affordable veterinary care. Dr. Tyler, the other doctor is equally as wonderful. He personally called the next day after the surgery to see how Mister Rogers was doing. He’s even answered questions on his day off. The way they are with people and animals is truly beautiful. I’ve seen what things like this can do to doctors and their staff. Either negative reviews or lies being spread can really hurt or damage a business’s reputation. Everyone can have an off day. Sometimes things don’t go the way you want. Taking all your anger and frustration out on people and using them as your human punching bag isn’t ok. Trust me there are times I’ve wanted to unleash in different situations. In the end being kind is always the right choice. Thankfully I’m smart enough to not go by reviews but referrals. I know you don’t know them but for me, please consider going on Yelp or on their social media pages and show them some love. Let’s call it a random act of kindness. Pretty please. (Info is in the comment sections) THANK YOU. Also, look how beautiful Mister Rogers’s eye is healing! #randomactsofkindness #prettyeyeschallenge
