Minimize Your Chance of Getting Cancer (Small lifestyle changes make big differences in risk) 1. Eat healthier: Smaller portions, more fruit and veggies, more fiber, lean meats and fish, less saturated fat, processed sugar and red meat. 2. Drink healthier: More water, less soda and alcohol... 3. Increase physical activity: walk, dance, swim, play with your kids in the backyard. 4. Maintain a healthy weight (easier with #1, 2, and 3) 5. Minimize stress: relax, unwind, recharge. Take some time for YOURSELF. #Tuesdaytip #healthylifestyle See more

Do you know that insurance companies must pay for your breast reconstruction after mastectomy? Breast Cancer Patient Education Act - Since 1998, Federal law has required insurance carriers to cover post mastectomy breast reconstruction surgery and prostheses. Over 50 percent of patients, however are never offered these options nor undergo any reconstructive procedure. On December 18, 2015, the Breast Cancer Patient Education Act became law and provides funds to educate patien...ts and health providers regarding the availability and coverage of breast reconstruction and other post mastectomy alternatives. Lumpectomy patients with cosmetic deformity are also eligible for covered services. Women may decide not to reconstruct their breasts after mastectomy, but all women should consult specialists regarding the breast reconstruction options available to them including implants, using their own tissue (including flaps and fat injections), and prostheses before proceeding with mastectomy. It’s important to me to always discuss with patients the potentially life improving breast reconstruction operations. Keeping my patients informed about all of the breast cancer treatment options appropriate for their case is vital to providing the care they need and deserve. It is their RIGHT. And it is the LAW.
