While many people have difficulty breathing after breaking their nose, many of my patients have a deviated-septum (a blockage in the nose caused by cartilage) for most of their lives without realizing it. I finished these two oil paintings during my second year of surgical residency in Philadelphia. Despite working long hours and taking calls at nights, the one thing that cleared my mind was painting and visiting art museums in the East Coast. The male painting is a self-portrait (obviously I was a lot more fit then), and the second one is called The Bride. During that time, my mother was constantly asking where my bride was. She wished me to get married, but I was not re...ady at that time, so I painted this bride and sent her a photo of it. She thought it was funny. Two years later, I met my wonderful wife in the Philadelphia Art Museum. She is an amazing painter, extremely intelligent scientist, and successful entrepreneur.
