This is a type 3 (>12-16 wks) implant placement of healing for the tooth #30 site. The patient had advance periodontal disease leading to eventual tooth fracture then tooth loss. A papillae sparing incision was made with just a small window made to make room for the implant placement to be as conservative as possible and minimize further recession of tissue distal to tooth #29. The tissue nicely wrapped around implant healing abutment and used Gore-tex PTFE sutures in the e...nd, making it nice and simple! This patient came in because his front tooth had fallen out and he was looking for a replacement. I completed this case in residency and learned so much from it. Multiple teeth try-ins to multiple dentures for temporaries just to create that ‘perfect’ smile. Educating the patient so that he understands his oral condition does not end at the delivery of the final restorations. Lots of planning goes into recreating a smile from nothing and then planning for a long term restorat...ion.
