The Opening Speaker at this year’s KDA conference will be Lizbeth Mateo! Lizbeth is an undocumented immigration attorney and activist. In 2013, she was part of the Dream 9, a group of young undocumented activists who left to Mexico, then returned to the U.S. border wearing their graduation caps and gowns and demanded to be let back in and granted asylum. Although the group was eventually allowed to the re-enter the U.S., several members, including Lizbeth, were denied DACA... as a result. Lizbeth went on to earn a law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, and she is the founder of the Law Offices of Lizbeth Mateo. Her work representing undocumented men and women in immigration court, while she herself is undocumented, is the subject of the award-winning short documentary, The Undocumented Lawyer, which will premiere on HBO Latino in 2021. **Remember, conference registration is free for undocumented high school and college students.
