Sad news this morning as Alex Thomson Racing withdraws from the Vendée Globe. Full statement from the team below ******************* After incurring damage to... the starboard rudder of the boat, Alex has ceased racing in the Vendée Globe and is now sailing the boat towards Cape Town. Alex last night disconnected the starboard rudder and has since been sailing the yacht with just one rudder. After assessing the situation today, Alex and the team have decided that the only course of action is to cease racing and sail the boat to Cape Town. Alex said: Unfortunately, a repair is not possible. We therefore accept that this will be the end of the race for us. Myself, my team and our partners are of course deeply disappointed. We believe the best was yet to come in this race. Alex is currently 1,800 nautical miles from Cape Town and it is expected to take him around seven days to make the journey. He’ll do so without the use of his starboard rudder and so will proceed safely and cautiously. Our technical team will travel to Cape Town to meet the yacht upon arrival. On behalf of Alex and the team, we thank you for your support during this time.

Congrats to Rich Witzel and his team on Rowdy for their 2nd place finish during the 2020 Inshore Verve Cup. The Rowdy J-70 program started two weeks prior with ...Rich working with Doyle Chicagos John Baxter during the 2020 Offshore Verve on his J-111. Rich asked if we could find him a 70 to charter and set up the team for the Inshore Verve. We just made it all happen annd it went off without a hitch. I was so happy for Rich who had barely ever even seen a J-70 much less been on one...He finished 1pt behind seasoned J-70 Sailor John Heaton and his talented team. Everybody was so supportive it made it such a fun event Witzel said. Special Thanks to Jud Smith for getting a set of the Best J-70 Sails around and coming in to be the Mainsail Trimmer and Tactition along with Willem VanWay, and Simon Grotty who rounded out the crew. Leif and Laura Sigmond, for the use of Norboy, and to John Heaton from AMerican Flyer who organized a fantastic training day before with CYC's Dave Gerber and who was super supportive of Richs getting into the 70 for the event. Rowdys success was a team effort and thank you RIch for giving us the opportunity! In addition to Rowdys success The E-22 Fleet was dominated by Doyle Customers with Mike Ferker taking first followed by Aaron Housten and in third Rick Kaiser. All three of the E-22's used Doyle Sails also made by Jud Smith. .

BLACK PEARL l A custom Botin 56, designed purely with an offshore focus. Black Pearl have also taken advantage of the Structured Luff Technology, exclusive to D...oyle Sails. A technology crew members Marc Lagesse and Paul Standbridge called a ‘no brainer’ for both new build and existing yachts. Launched this week, with sea trials underway in Valencia, the Black Pearl sails are proudly managed by Luke Molloy from Doyle Sails Palma and designed by Grand Prix expert Justin Ferris from New Zealand. Earlier this month we spoke with owner Stefan Jentzsch about why working with Doyle Sails has been an integral part of their project. Nice picture by Doug Reynolds of a rounding at Larchmont Race Week. Usually our mid season regatta this was Fleet 6's first regatta of the year. 3 very tight r...aces sailed each day for a 6 race event. The race committee and the wind gods cooperated to get racing off each day on time. Paul Beaudin and Loulou took the win but not without strong challenges by all the boats. Second was Max Kalehoff on Laura Bee with Jason Barron's Raven in third. See more
