Depreciation rules and limitations have changed for the better in 2018. This can mean BIG tax savings, especially if you expect to fall in a high tax bracket. If you have multiple business interests, or are considering purchasing equipment, vehicles or other capital assets, now may be the perfect time to reinvest in your business! In the past, section 179 allowed business owners to depreciate their equipment entirely as long as it didn't create a loss. Bonus depreciation all...owed taxpayers to deduct 50% of the value of their purchased assets up front even if it created a tax loss for the business. What’s new? In 2018, bonus depreciation increased to 100% of the purchase price. The dollar limit on section 179 deductions has also increased from $500k to $1m. This creates opportunities that may allow certain individuals to eliminate their tax liability altogether.
