You feel scared shitless at the thought that you are responsible for another human. Your nipples are so sore and Lansinoh nipple cream is the best thing ever...and serves as an UNREAL chapstick .... You’re so thirsty that you have a huge jug of water with you at all times. The term tired has an entirely new meaning than from your party days in your 20’s. In specific moments of overwhelm and fear, you wish for your old life back and wonder if you’ll ever watch a full movie or catch up on your Netflix shows again...while simultaneously finding yourself staring at this little face with wrinkled hands like he/she is an angel on earth. You wonder if you can ever leave the house without bringing half of it with you and you wonder if you’ll ever sleep a full night again...and I promise you, you will. You feel like you’re half naked all the time while nursing (if you’re breastfeeding) and you’re living in sweats, no makeup on and your hair unwashed for days. While nursing you surround yourself with towels or extra burp cloths because you can’t stop leaking all over the place! If this is your second time around you feel a slight bit of confidence given that you’ve been here before BUT navigating more than one is an entirely new ball game that you look at your partner with the holy shit look more often than not. Mom guilt is so real and you’re constantly questioning your every move with your children, and find yourself asking if you’re doing enough? It’s all so hard in a different way this time around yet you never knew you had enough space in your heart to love another child the way you do your first. You see your children interact and it melts your heart. It’s all worth it. The fears, tears, smiles, baby giggles and sore breasts. Take the time mama because even if our culture doesn’t appreciate this time, we must. I’m sending so much love to you. You aren’t alone, even if you feel that way. I love you.
