The Sr. Dorothy Stang Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement 15.01.2021

Happy Birthday Sister Helen Dugan! Today, at the Belmont Province Center, Sister Helen Dugan, SNDdeN, is celebrating her 101st birthday. A COVID-19 survivor, she's been a faithful and loving daughter of St. Julie for more than 80 years. What a gift Helen is to all of us!

Theodore Ellington, BA Political Science 2011, has been busy in his community during the pandemic. Theo directs Homeless Initiatives and Community Development a...t the Salvation Army, San Francisco. In collaboration with the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, they have created MealsinPlaceSF. They deliver meals to people experiencing homelessness and living in encampments throughout San Francisco. They hope by delivering meals to people living in encampments they will increase their ability to shelter in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Theo and volunteers are serving 1,350 unsheltered people daily with 2 prepared meals and snacks! They deliver Monday through Saturday (Saturday’s delivery includes meals for Sunday) at 40 outdoor locations citywide. Thank you Theo, for all of your great efforts in helping those community members in need. To support Theo and the Salvation Army with MealsinPlaceSF, you can volunteer to prepare or distribute packages. To volunteer visit the website below! Sister Dorothy died reading from the Beatitudes. Today more than ever are we called to bring compassion first to those we meet so that we may understand our sis...ters and brothers, and build each other up. How do you build that bridge of understanding for good in your life? Artwork by Sr. Margaret Hoffman, SNDdeN
