We are always inventing, mostly for the benefit and joy of music, but sometimes for other reasons. Here is a message from KD, our founder and chief inventor, ab...out his newest product you can make from home. We hope this information helps everyone to gain more control over their own personal safety, and their ability to function safely when it is necessary to go out in the world. "Dear friends: After having traveled through DFW airport recently, I became acutely aware of the need for simple & comfortable PPE to protect us against transmission of Covid-19. After returning to my home in Greenville CA, I have turned my skills as an inventor towards designing simple, comfortable, & effective PPE that anyone can make for themselves. I am giving these designs away. into the public domain. So, anyone is free to make these designs, further improve upon these designs, or even manufacture & sell these designs. Any of you reading this message could immediately begin to make the Eyeglass-Veil for yourself, your family, your friends. We do not need to wait for our government, the medical industry, or big business to provide solutions for our safety. We, ourselves, have the power to protect ourselves, our families and our communities The design for the Eyeglass-Veil is so simple, it can be described in a single sentence: Make a veil of multiple layers of cloth and/or plastic (approximately the size of a handkerchief) and attach this veil to the bottom of eyeglasses, safety glasses, or sunglasses, (preferably with hook and loop fasteners -Velcro) so that when placed on one's face, the eyeglasses will protect the eyes, while the veil will hang downward to protect the face, nose, and mouth. Our local newspaper ran a short story about these designs, which is published on their website at https://www.plumasnews.com/greenville-man-invents-eyeglass/ What I learned during my recent travels is that most of the PPE currently available is designed for high contamination environments such as hospitals, and this level of PPE is not very comfortable. While traveling, I was constantly lifting or removing my N-95 mask to release the buildup of moisture or to de-fog my sunglasses. And every time I did this, it meant bringing my hand to my face, and opening up my mask. So, I became determined to create PPE that was both effective for protection in low contamination environments (our everyday lives), and was so comfortable that it could be worn indefinitely with no discomfort. The first such design I created is the Eyeglass-Veil. Already I am working on improvements to this design: - a longer or wider veil for added protection, and possibly wide enough so that a corner of the veil could attach to the earpieces of the glasses - a strap to tie behind the neck for added protection - different types of cloth and/or plastic - some type of extension on the bottom rim of the glasses so the veil hangs further from the face (a friend suggested cutting the cloth on the bias to achieve this) I am asking each of you to please spread the word about this Eyeglass-Veil design to your network of friends and social media contacts. Specifically, I am asking you to please type in the following words to your internet search engine (Google): Eyeglass-Veil/plumasnews.com 1. When you click on the listing that appears from the search engine, it will bring you to the same news story as listed above, 2. Once you are at the story page at plumasnews.com, please scroll down to the bottom and click on the links for our miniflexmic website (www.MiniFlexMic.Com) and FaceBook where we provide updates and more information about the Eyeglass-veil and possible new PPE which we can make for ourselves. Following the above process will hopefully begin to get the attention of search engines, lead to more widespread dispersion of information about this Eyeglass-veil design, and hopefully bring more communication through the website and facebook so that we can have ongoing discussions about making, improving, and using self-made PPE. For those living in Plumas county.. I am seeking someone who is good at sewing and has a good sewing machine to begin making face veils. I am ready to place an order for 100 veils when I can find the right person to do this work. Please message us here to discuss. If we will all begin to practice simple procedures to safe distance, and also wear reasonable PPE, we will both protect ourselves, and protect those around us. And we can do this with little or no discomfort. It is merely a matter of changing our habits to adapt to this new reality of a major pandemic sweeping across our world, our nation, and our communities. Once we change our habits to protect ourselves, Covid-19, infections will begin to decline and we can slowly begin to resume a more normal life. But, we may need to use such simple PPE in social situations for several months until the pandemic has fully passed. I hope this information helps everyone to gain more control over their own personal safety, and their ability to function safely when it is necessary to go out in the world. I look forward to comments from anyone, and hope this inspires many people to begin creating improvements on the Eyeglass-Veil, and creating other new, simple, and comfortable PPE for us all to make & use.
