Countless patients, visitors, and employees have taken enjoyment in watching Dominican Hospital's large Koi fish and striped turtles in the hospital's Norman and Maureen Benito Surgery Courtyard pond as they go about their business. Recently we discovered that one of our turtles, Squirtle, had been injured. Our Koi specialist, Dan Rutledge of Pond Life, was kind enough to take Squirtle to the vet, where it was discovered she had broken her shelllikely from getting stuck in ...the pond rocks. This was the equivalent of a human breaking a major bone, and required serious care. Squirtle needed antibiotic shots every three days, daily clean bedding, and a place to stay out of the water every night for a month. Dan volunteered to house Squirtle and provide her with this specialized care for the next month! #Hellohumankindness We are happy to say that under Dan’s watch, Squirtle is recuperating beautifully and should be able to return to her Dominican home soon!!

This month, for #BreastCancerAwareness, get checked. Encourage your family members and friends to get checked. Be the community needed to help a stranger power through cancer treatment. Attend a walk (virtually or in-person) and donate to cancer research. Every little thing makes a difference.
