25 Years ago today at 17... I planned my very first event. Today I am putting the finishing touches on my 817th event. I have planned weddings, corporate/non-profit events, social events, conferences, funerals and in the last few years group travel. I have planned my family reunions, events for my sororities and other organizations I am in, churches, districts I have worked for, proms, graduation activities, community events, etc. I thank God for lighting a fire under me ove...r the years to continue with blessing others with a talent that many are not gifted with. I have had the pleasure of working with so many of you as a bride, groom, or client. Over the years I have doubted this calling- mainly due to people having their personal opinions about the work that I do. But I am thankful for the mentors in this industry and my sister/brother planners who have partnered with me or whipped me into shape to keep on pushing. Planners don’t ever get the credit they deserve. When we post photos - you see the delivery but you don’t know the trail to lead to that. Sometimes our clients may think we are taking credit for their work but we don’t. Do we get paid our worth? Nope!! Especially as an African-American Planner... don’t get me started!! Planning events isn’t for everyone, it ain’t glorious and it’s certainly an industry that isn’t valued enough. With every event I plan whether it be a few dollars or thousands of dollars, small or large, - the touches I put on my events can never be duplicated. To everyone who has entrusted their events to me- thank you! To those who have spoke up on me negatively- thank you! To those who think that I have overcharged or always plan over the top- thank you! To those who have encouraged and supported me- thank you! To those who have provided assistance - as a confidant, a vendor, a partner in the planning process- thank you! I am elated to be celebrating my 25th anniversary and will continue to provide the best event planning services that I can. Am I perfect? Of course not! I will continue to accept client feedback to perfect this calling and will continue to educate myself in the industry. Thank you thank you thank you! A special thank you to all of my coordinators and assistants that have worked with me over the years...
