Here’s how to sanitize your glasses/sunglasses with prescription and/or coated lenses. Some viruses such as COVID-19 can stay on hard surfaces for hours to days. 1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly 2. Rinse your glasses under a gentle stream of lukewarm tap water 3. Gently rub both sides of the lenses and all parts of the frame with 1-2 small drops of mild lotion-free liquid hand soap or dishwashing liquid... 4. Rinse glasses thoroughly with lukewarm water 5. Gently shake glasses to eliminate excess water 6. Carefully dry with clean microfiber cloth (available at DEO) 7. Launder dirty microfiber cloths in your washing machine and dryer without fabric softener Cleaning Glasses DON'TS: 1. Don’t rinse glasses under hot water. This can damage coatings on your lenses. 2. Don’t use household glass or surface cleaners. These can damage coatings, like anti-reflecting coating, on your lenses. 3. Don’t use your shirttail or other cloth when lenses are dry. This can scratch your lenses. 4. Don’t use paper towels, tissue, toilet paper or other non lint-free cloths. The lint can scratch your lenses.

Eye care tips for summer travel 1. Get your kids sunglasses. Some research shows nearly half of a person's lifetime UV exposure can take place by age 18. Children are more susceptible to damage to the retina (back of the eye) from UV rays because the lens of a child's eye is less capable of blocking UV than an adult lens. 2. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's UV rays, which can lead to cataracts and macular degeneration. ... 3. Bring copies of your glasses and contact lens prescriptions, as well as eye medications you may be taking. 4. Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help with dry eye and summer heat. 5. Pack a pair of backup prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses. 6. If you wear contact lenses, never expose your contacts to any type of water. The microbes and viruses living in it can attach to your lenses and cause a sight threatening eye infection. When traveling abroad, always wash your hands with clean drinkable water, and always use sterile contact lens solution for your lenses. Better yet, get fit for daily disposable lenses like Clariti 1 Day. They require no cases or solution, and you don't have to worry about sterility because you use a fresh new pair each day.

Along with warmer days comes allergies and red, itchy, dry eyes. Here are eye care tips to protect yourself from pollen: 1. Wear sunglasses. It will block some pollen in the air from entering your eyes and block harmful UV rays. 2. Wash hands frequently. Pollen gets everywhere including your hands. Many people rub their irritated eyes and get pollen into their eyes from their hands. ... 3. Use a HEPA filter indoors. Pollen particles are small enough to get into your home or apartment. Use an air purifier with a HEPA filter to filter out allergens and pollen. 4. Use artificial tears. These help allergy symptoms by soothing dry itchy eyes and by washing irritants out of the eyes. At DEO, we use Oasis Tears Plus, a preservative free tear lubricant. 5. Keep contact lenses clean. Clean and replace contacts frequently, or switch to daily disposable lenses to prevent pollen from accumulating on the lenses. If you have eye allergies, remove contacts and wear glasses.
