Despite the circumstances this year, we're grateful to hold onto our Holiday meal tradition, distributed to every DISH residents to show our love and spread some holiday cheer! Shoutout to the fabulous Lynda, our resident volunteer for helping distribute these meals + the added goodies courtesy of EngAGE to her neighbors. Another resident, Lori reminds us, "This year, I've learned how important our lives are, how important our community is." While we can't gather in-pers...on this year, we reflect on how incredible our community is on a normal day and the challenging days (or year). We wish you and your loved ones happy and healthy holidays from all of us at DISH.

Our resident Fidel recommends frosting and gumdrops as key ingredients to making a (gingerbread) house into the sweetest of homes. In this season, where home means more than ever before, please consider giving the gift of home sweet home to our most vulnerable neighbors: https://bit.ly/DONATETODISH2020

Although the revived Boedekker Trekkers now entails a ‘self-guided’ twist due to the stay-at-home order, our residents have been rejoiced to rebuild their routines and safely interact with neighbors, with smiles beaming through their masks. Following the stay-at-home order, we hope to soon resume the post-Trek raffle, group lunch, and group stretches and expand more EngAGE led programs like this one to all of our sites. By making a donation that is significant to you, we can keep this programming alive and keep our residents out of isolation in the new year: https://bit.ly/DONATETODISH2020

"Home is safety, comfort, and a basic human right" Rounding month 9 of the initial stay-at-home order, many of us find ourselves back home to keep our community safe. This year has illuminated the importance of home, and what it means for our community. And we'd like to share what they have to say: https://youtu.be/A6yYTB5GVqU Matt Haney London Breed EngAGE La Cocina Teranga Life - Teranga Juice Origen ... Now your turn: What does home mean to you?

Say hello to Angelina, DISH tenant and all-star bingo player! We and our partners at EngAGE are coming up with creative ways to host socially distant activities for tenants, one of them being hallway bingo! While making the best out of the 'new normal', Angelina brings honesty in saying "it is still better when we are together."

OUR VOICES MATTER! Every day's a good day to design self-empowering t-shirts and get connected to voter registration resources -- and that's exactly what our residents did! DISH tenant William (far right in group photo) shares, 'to me, voting means that I help decide what happens.' ... Shoutout to EngAGE for making this day spectacular.

At a time when food insecurity is more prevalent than ever, residents at four of our sites are guaranteed meals provided by our amazing partnership with La Cocina Today, we especially thank Teranga Life - Teranga Juice an immigrant woman-run business and alumni of La Cocina's incubator program for bringing Senegalese deliciousness into the homes of our Le Nain residents.

Welcome to Le Nain, the second DISH building featured in our takeover series! Le Nain is situated in the Uptown Tenderloin District next to Van Ness Avenue, the famous Auto Row of San Francisco’s most prestigious auto showrooms in the 1900's. The building’s 100-year history served mostly as a tourist hotel-- but today is home to senior San Franciscans as part of San Francisco Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing. We've been at Le Nain since 2007, assuring that the space is clean, safe, and most importantly a place to call home for our residents. Be on the lookout as we share the goings on at Le Nain, as told by the DISH staff and residents who know it best.

Tenant-led advocacy of rent reduction in supportive housing is making mighty advances in our corner of the world!! A one-time budget increase was approved to lower rent for low-income tenants in SF supportive housing (including 5 DISH sites!) from 50% of their income down to 30% for 11 months. While a step in the right direction, the temporary rent reduction is a "down payment on what needs to be a universal standard for housing," as Supervisor Matt Haney says best. Tenant a...dvocates, with support from local non-profits like DISH and San Francisco Senior and Disability Action, continue working to make this stride a permanent one. Laurie, our valued Community Advisory Board member and DISH resident of 5 years shares: "The rent reduction is helping me make ends meet at the end of every month. I feel much less worry now without such high rent expenses."
